Local Student Internship Opportunity

The American Embassy in Kathmandu is pleased to announce internship opportunities for the local students at the U.S. Embassy, Kathmandu. The internship program is designed to provide interns with professional exposure and opportunities for knowledge and skills development by placing them with mentors in various technical and support offices. The duration of this program is 3 months and this internship program also incorporates flexibility into the schedule to allow students to maintain their class schedule. This is an unpaid program.

There are 4 intern positions available:

1. Population, Refugees and Migration (PRM) Intern (PDF 88KB)

Qualifications required:

  • Completion of Higher Secondary School is required.
  • Some experience working in Tibetan refugee communities or a Tibetan Refugee is required.
  • English Language proficiency at least Level – III (Good Working Knowledge) is required. Fluent Tibetan and Nepali Language skills are required.
  • Basic computer skills such as MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint are required.

2. Human Resources Office Intern (PDF 109KB)

Qualifications required:

  • Completion of Higher Secondary School is required.
  • English Language proficiency at least Level-III (Good Working Knowledge) is required.
  • Basic computer skills such as MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint are required.

3. Information Resource Management Intern (PDF 89KB)

Qualifications required:

  • Completion of Higher Secondary school is required.
  • English Language proficiency at least Level-IV (Fluent) is required.
  • Proficient in use of Windows-based computer applications is required.

4. Office of Defense Cooperation Intern (PDF 89KB)

Qualifications required:

  • Completion of Higher Secondary school is required.
  • English Language proficiency at least Level-III (Good Working Knowledge) is required.
  • Basic computer skills such as MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint are required.
  • The ability to write and analyze data is required.

Local Student Internship Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the Local Student Internship Program, students must meet ALL of the following criteria:

A. Minimum Age: Students must be at least 18 years old at the time of participation in the program.

B. Citizenship/Legal Residence: This program is only open to students who are either citizens or permanent legal residents of the host country.

C. Meet Definition of Student: Applicants must have completed Higher Secondary education and must be enrolled in college or university or trade/technical/ vocational institute or other accredited educational institution.

D. Transcript and Permission: Applicants must be in good academic standing at their current educational institution and must provide a certified transcript verifying this. Applicants must also provide written permission from the educational institution at which they are currently enrolled to participate in this program.
