Job Description

Shelter Coordinator - One year fixed term contract based in Kathmandu

Job Purpose: To provide guidance and technical support to Oxfam’s shelter activities in the earthquake affected areas.  

                                        

Responsibilities:

This position will require technically supporting coordination and strategy development to select, design and implementing through the projects in the Districts the most appropriate form of shelter assistance in response to the changing needs, in consultation with the beneficiaries, partners, local staff, NGO community and local authorities and in line with the Shelter Strategy. You will also require to represent in close coordination with Humanitarian Program Director and Country Director Oxfam with other NGO’s, partners and Government authorities where requested either at Cluster/Sector fora’s, coordination meetings, and technical working groups. The Shelter Coordinator ought to voice coherently Oxfam’s position in shelter (emergency and transitional) and contribute to the technical working groups when designing the appropriate National shelter strategy.

 

Requirements: A suitable degree (minimum Master or equivalent) level qualification in architecture, construction or engineering, with practical experience in humanitarian and reconstruction contexts. Experience can substitute for qualifications but not vice versa. Most importantly, proven practical experience of at least 5 years in developing countries in emergency and transitional shelter and the integration of shelter activities with other sectors.
