Position Title: Programme Assistant (District Nutrition Coordinator)

Contract Type: Service Contract (SC)

Grade: SC-5 (equivalent to GS-5)

Contract Duration: 12 months (with possible extension)

Duty Station: Saptari, Siraha, Sunsari and Jhapa

Post: 4 position (four)

Nationality: Nepalese ONLY

Organizational Context

The Programme Assistant (District Nutrition Coordinator)will be a member of the WFP nutrition team, and he/she will be based in one of the project districtsJob holders are likely to be working under the close support and guidance of a more experienced professional staff member receiving guidance and regular feedback on work performed. They are typically involved in programme or policy activities or similar nature and analytical work of limited complexity.

Job Purpose:

The incumbent is responsible for support in overseeing the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of the MCHN project in the assigned district (s).To provide support to School Meals Programme (SMP) Unit that effectively meet food assistance needs.

Key Accountabilities (not all-inclusive)

Under the overall guidance of the Head of Nutrition, and direct supervision of the National Nutrition Officer, the job holder will carry out the following tasks:

  • Coordination and Capacity Strengthening Support
  • Programme Planning and Implementation
  • Monitoring, Reporting and Information Management
  • Other Responsibilities

Standard Minimum Qualifications

Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area is desirable. Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition or Public Health or related fields with relevant on the job training related to SBCC and integrated nutrition programming will be a plus.

Language:  Fluency in both written and spoken English and Nepali languages. Nepali Typing skill is an asset. Knowledge of local languages is a mandatory.

Desired Experiences for Entry into the Role

  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in public health and nutrition, community development etc. with governmental and multilateral organizations or I/NGOs.
  • Prior experience of working in the project target districts/municipalities will be given preference.
  • Knowledge of and experience of promoting consumption of locally available food, community engagement, development, and inclusion.
  • Previous experience in managing CPs will be ana advantage.
  • General knowledge of UN system policies, rules, regulations, and procedures in the area of work is an advantage.

Other Specific Job Requirements:

  • Functional competencies including supervising implementation of multi sector nutrition programmes, nutrition emergency preparedness and response, maternal and child health, IYCF/MIYCN, SBCC, school-based programming etc.
  • Sound understanding of nutrition related programmes and initiatives in Nepal
  • Good communication skills, ability for perform well in cross-disciplinary teams, and ability to maintain effective working relations with partners.
  • Training and experience in utilizing computers and standard software packages and systems, such as MS-Office.
