Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:: Under the overall guidance of Country Director and the direct supervision of Head of IT Operations Officer the incumbent will be responsible for the following tasks:

  •  Provide technical support for the installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of IT and telecommunications systems, including servers, LAN/WAN networks, VSATs, optical fiber links, and power backup equipment, ensuring systems operate efficiently and in accordance with WFP standards.
  •  Conduct routine system diagnostics, perform software and hardware updates, and monitor network performance to ensure service reliability; assist in responding to basic cybersecurity incidents as per corporate guidance.
  •  Serve as a focal point for information and content management using SharePoint and other WFP digital platforms, supporting data collection, processing, and reporting to facilitate informed decision-making.
  •  Manage IT assets and inventories, including tagging, registration, verification, and reconciliation, ensuring updates are accurately reflected in corporate systems in line with WFP asset management policies.
  •  Deliver Level 1 and Level 2 technical support to end users, escalating unresolved or complex issues as necessary. Support workshops, meetings, and official events by providing IT setup, connectivity, and troubleshooting assistance.
  •  Assist in IT-related procurement and budgeting by preparing technical specifications, tracking financial transactions, and ensuring timely delivery and documentation of goods and services.
  •  Maintain up-to-date records of IT documentation, licenses, configurations, and ensure compliance with WFP administrative procedures, information security policies, and audit requirements.
  •  Collaborate with Administration, Finance, and Procurement units to facilitate timely and compliant procurement of IT and telecommunications goods and services.
  •  Support the development of standard material such as training documentation and Web content on behalf of senior officers, to ensure staff have access to required information about IT services and products. Support the rollout and adoption of WFP corporate applications and digital tools by coordinating with field teams and providing basic training and guidance to users.
  •  Provide support in service improvement by identifying recurring technical issues, proposing preventive measures, and supporting continuous improvement of IT operations.
  •  Work collaboratively with other IT staff to ensure smooth and uninterrupted IT service delivery and operational continuity across the office and field locations.
  •  Maintain organized and secure digital and physical filing systems for IT administrative and operational records.
  •  Perform other related duties as required to support the delivery of effective and efficient IT services in line with WFP's goals and operational requirements.

Job Specification

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:Education:: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area and any university degree in computer science, computer engineering or information technology is desirable.

Experience::

  •  At least five years of relevant work experience.
  •  More years of experience with professional certification is considered an added value.
  •  Assisted in gathering user requirements and recommending basic automation and optimization solutions.
  •  Experienced in using service desk and ticketing systems to manage user requests and system events; familiarity with ITIL practices is an added advantage.
  •  Involved in country office-level procurement, property surveys, and budgeting forums.
  •  Deployed and maintained IT/TC systems including VSAT, radios, CCTV, PABX, firewalls, and server/network infrastructure.
  •  Proficient in deploying and managing cloud platforms like Office 365, SharePoint, Azure, Cisco Networks, SDN, and SD-WAN.
  •  Experienced with cybersecurity and information security solutions and their deployment.
  •  Contributed to technical documentation, project briefs, and user guides.
  •  Supported IT events, training, and simulation exercises.
  •  Exposure to emergency response or humanitarian missions is considered an added value.
  •  Engaged in small-scale IT projects and built strong working relationships with stakeholders.

Languages: Excellent written and spoken English and Nepali languages.
