URGENT STAFFING NEEDS FOR WORLD VISION NEPAL RESPONSE:

Our Global Relief Response team, together with our WV Nepal staff, are responding to meet the needs of children and their families hit hard by the devastating earthquake.  We are looking for replacements for nine key roles to take over their work on a longer term basis.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

World Vision is responding with relief efforts after a deadly 7.8 earthquake struck Kathmandu and surrounding areas in Nepal on April 25, 2015.

According to government reports, the quake killed thousands of people and that number is expected to rise. Thousands more were injured and left homeless by the massive earthquake across three other countries - China, Bangladesh and India - in the region.

World Vision has been operating in Nepal since 1982 by providing health-care, relief response to natural disasters, and long-term development work. We are currently seeking professionals to join our global humanitarian response in Nepal, who are passionate about protecting lives, restoring dignity and renewing hope, especially among children affected by conflict and natural disaster.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Response Director leads WVs response to disaster- affected persons in need. The RM will oversee the disaster response team, ensuring a strategic fit between the response strategy, the programmes and the available competencies and resources.
  • The RM acts as the point person for the response, coordinates with WV Nepal National Office, the regional team and the wider WV Partnership, as well as representing WV with host governments and donors.
  • The RM translates strategy into operations, ensures that quality and accountability standards are met and manages the overall response budget (expected to be multi million dollars).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • University degree or qualification in a relevant subject with a focus on leadership, team management, project management or other relevant skills.
  • 5 years proven experience with International NGOs/UN in emergency relief projects, rehabilitation projects or related field.
  • Proven track record of leading multi-cultural team of professionals.
  • Proven track record of managing multi-million dollar budgets.
  • Politically astute and well developed diplomatic skills (dealing with host government, donors and staff and WV Partnership).
  • Experience in programme management and implementation of multi sectoral emergency response projects.
  • Fluent in English (written and oral) is required.
