Referral Nurse-1(pos)

The International Organization for Migration is seeking qualified Nepali Nationals for the following position based in Kathmandu.

Position Title:                Referral Nurse - 1 position
Classification:               SAI, 3 months with possibility of extension, ungraded (equivalent to Grade – 4)
General functions:
Under the overall guidance of the IOM Nepal Emergency Health Team Leader for administrative matters and under the direct supervision of the Referral and Public Health Focal Point for technical matters, the incumbent will be responsible for implementation of Health Referrals and Assisted Voluntary Return of Displaced Populations and Community Health Promotion in partnership with the Camp Coordination and Camp Management unit:
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Screen cases for referral assistance and transport to facilities or home/preferred community
  • Assist the medical doctor in referring patients by confirming Fitness to travel and placement, ahead of the transfer date
  • Escort the referred patient and provide care if necessary during the transfer to the receiving entity
  • Train Logistics/Hotline Operators on how to manage the movement of vehicles and patients
  • Train and orient the IOM Drivers on patient safe transportation 
  • Ensure appropriate handover to accepting services by phone and/or in person and provide appropriate advice regarding clinical care and/or follow up services.
  • Maintain the drugs inventory, manage the stock and advise the medical doctor when supplies are needed
  • Maintain an updated medical escort list and data entry 
  • Assist in health promotion activities in IDP sites and sites of return including, but not limited to, personal hygiene, environmental sanitation, water sanitation, prevention of communicable diseases, TB and maternal and reproductive health
  • Conducting mapping of local health services and liaise with local health staff
  • Train partners in referral pathways for health referrals and key messages for health promotion
  • Prepare short reports on activities conducted and identified health risks in the community
  • Coordinate closely with camp management and camp coordination colleagues regarding gaps and priority sites for intervention
  • Coordinate with relevant internally units including Psychosocial Support and Protection
  • Other duties as may be assigned by your supervisor/s 

General Requirements:

Required Qualifications and Competencies:
  • University degree in Nursing. Valid license to practice is a must
  • At least three years clinical experience
  • Experience in community health related projects for international organizations or government and institutions is favorable
  • Capacity to work independently, efficiently with flexibility
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, including ability to speak in public, good writing, communication and negotiation skills
  • Working knowledge of English is an advantage
