Job Description

The International Organization for Migration is seeking for qualified Nepali Nationals for the following position based in Kathmandu.

Position Title:               IT Assistant - 1 position

Classification:              Grade 4

Contract type:             Special, six months with possibility of extension

General functions:

Under the overall supervision of the Senior Resource Management Officer and the direct supervision of the Senior IT Assistant, the incumbent is responsible for assisting of the maintenance, support and implementation of the IT infrastructure.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide onsite end- user support to IOM staff.
  2. Assist in the monitoring and administration of LAN, Internet connectivity and equipment.
  3. Support in the maintenance of present and upcoming ITC equipment.
  4. Implement configuration of desktops and laptops for IT Services such as Internet, access to network resources, email and others.
  5. Install, configure and upgrade hardware and software for desktops and laptops (Windows, MS Office, Antivirus and in house produced software).
  6. Virus detection, removal and prevention for all systems.
  7. Support in the Management of an overall tracking system for the ITC Equipment Inventory.
  8. Assist in the implementation and management of a centralized data backup system.
  9. Support in the configuration of the Motorola VHF and Codan HF network
  10. Implement when necessary, ITC training to end users to ensure productive use of existing and new applications and systems.
  11. Regularly report on needs and progress on the ITC issues in his/her area of responsibility.
  12. Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

General Requirements:

Required Qualifications and Competencies:

a)    Secondary education in computer science or a combination of relevant educational and professional experience.

b)    Minimum 4 years of experience in networking environment (LAN/WAN).

c)    Experience with Windows Server software (2008) in a multi-site environment, TCP/IP, MS Office 2010, Antivirus Software, Backup Server software and IT utilities.

d)    Able to work under pressure.

e)    Experience with Microsoft SQL databases and Visual Basic is advantage.

               f)    Fluency in English and Nepali.
