Job Description

Vacancy Notice No: VN#NP/105/15

Position Title: Lab Assistant - 1 position

Classification: SAI, 3 months with possibility of extension, ungraded (equivalent to Grade – 3)

Purpose of the post: The successful candidate will assist in providing laboratory service for Emergency TB project.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

1) Perform collection of sputum specimen; 2) Perform the processing of sputum specimen; 3) Perform sputum microscopy and GeneXpert test as per the Standard Operating Procedure; 4) Ensure that quality assurance and control measures for all testing in Laboratory is under taken and recorded; 5) Ensure that GeneXpert machine and other equipment maintained and calibrated properly; 6) Prepare specimen and arrange transport if required; 7) Provide the test result to patient, patient visitors or community volunteers as appropriate; 8) Perform any other tests required for the project; 9) Establish and maintain a good relationship with other colleagues in the Laboratory; 10) Fill up all relevant form, format and register and keep up to date record in the Laboratory

Required Qualifications and Competencies:

a) Lab Assistant with at least 3 years’ experience or Lab Technician with at least 1 year experience b) Preference will be given to the person having experience in Tuberculosis Laboratory c) Capacity to work independently and under time constraints d) Demonstrated ability in dealing with people of various backgrounds, ages, etc.; respect for diversity e) Ability to work effectively and harmoniously within a team of colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds f) Excellent communication skills (working knowledge of English required)
