Artist Communicator-1(pos)

The International Organization for Migration is seeking qualified Nepali Nationals for the following position based in Kathmandu with frequent travel to earthquake affected areas.

Position Title:               Artist Communicator -1 position

Classification:              SAI, 6 months with possibility of extension, ungraded (equivalent to Grade –4)

 

General functions:

Under the overall guidance of the IOM Nepal Emergency Health Team Leader for administrative matters and under the direct supervision of the Emergency Psychosocial Focal Point for technical matters, the incumbent will be responsible for implementation of psychosocial components of the project on Health Referrals, Transfer and Assisted Discharges of Earthquake Affected IDPs and Camp Coordination and Camp Management.
 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Mobilize earthquake affected/displaced communities for effective psychosocial support programs.
  • Plan and implement recreational activities such as art, music or theatre for earthquake affected/ displaced communities to maintain their psycho-social well-being.
  • Identify the potential resources within the social and cultural context of the community for therapeutic use to maintain psychosocial health of displaced population.
  • Support the overall psychosocial activities for earthquake affected people with inputs to the teams especially in use of creative and artistic techniques and activities.
  • Identify cases that require intervention on the psychological, social and cultural aspects and refer them to the team’s psychologist.
  • Educate the communities on basic psychosocial self-care as per guidelines.
  • Engage the communities in other activities designed to overcome the grief and loss due to earthquake and reintegrate affected population.
  • Report on the follow-ups and sessions conducted.
  • Travel to remote areas if required.
  • Any other duty as may be assigned.

 

General Requirements:

Required Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Secondary education is required. Bachelor degree in fine arts, education, Mass communication, social sciences or related discipline will be an advantage
  • Two to three years of work experience in community services or community mobilization is required.
  • Experience in fine art, music, theatre and art/craft is desirable.
  • Previous experience of working in post emergency settings, theatre or cultural animation will be an advantage.
  • Personal commitment, efficiency, flexibility and drive for results.
  • Proficiency in Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Thorough knowledge of English and Nepali.
