Job Description

The International Organization for Migration is seeking qualified Nepali Nationals for the following positions based in Kathmandu.

Position Title:                        On-Call Care Taker - 4 positions

Classification:                       Daily Contract (equivalent to Grade –1)

General functions:

Under the overall supervision of the International Migration Health Physician, Kathmandu and direct supervision of Chief Head Nurse, the successful candidate will have the following duties and responsibilities:

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. To take care of the refugees with no family support at transit center.
  2. To meet the refugee in transit center and accompany him/her to the hospital and stay with the refugee throughout the period of  hospitalization (day or night).
  3. To assist and support the refugee to take care of his/her needs while in hospital by all means like fetching food from canteen, to  co-ordinate with hospital staff to fulfill the requirements of the required medicine, and other needs like clothing , water and basic personal care etc.
  4. To assist the refugee in report collection and accompany him/her during the investigation process to relevant department and remain with the refugee until the work is over.
  5. To assist with administrative work such as collecting discharge summary reports.
  6. To report the progress of the patient including the admin related needs to the Nurse and the Physician in Transit Center.
  7. To be willing to travel to Damak to accompany the refugee if needed.
  8. Follow the standard IOM policy on medical confidentiality.
  9. Perform any other work that may be assigned.

General Requirements:

Required Qualifications and Competencies:

  • High school education is required.
  • Previous experience in social work will be an advantage.
  • A person with compassionate approach is mandatory.
  • Ability to handle situation in a polite and patient manner.
  • Comfortable to work with patient and hospital setting.
  • Maintains confidentiality and discretion in appropriate areas of work.
