MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
The anticipated roles and responsibilities of Project Coordinator include but are not limited to the following:
PROJECT PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION
- Serve as the primary liaison between the central REACT team and local stakeholders, including municipal authorities, health facilities, and community people.
- Engage proactively with local stakeholders to identify gaps and challenges in the local health system to address climate threats.
- Facilitate inclusive and participatory processes for problem identification and prioritization, leading to the development of actionable intervention plans.
- Ensure alignment of all activities with health system strengthening and climate adaptation priorities.
- Mobilize community researchers/citizen scientists for participatory research on climate-health linkages and promote inclusive participation of marginalized and vulnerable groups affected by climate risks throughout the project duration.
- Guide, supervise, and monitor community researchers/field enumerators to ensure data quality, adherence to research protocols, and timely completion of field activities.
- Coordinate logistics for routine activities and events, including baseline research, co-creation, intervention implementation, and evaluation.
- Organize and facilitate dialogues and consultations with stakeholders at provincial and local levels including multisectoral stakeholders to discuss climate and health priorities and strategic actions.
- Support local governments in rolling out interventions that enhance health workforce resilience to climate threats.
- Support training sessions for health workers and community researchers on climate responsive practices.
- Collect data by employing qualitative and quantitative methods (e.g. interviews, group discussions and participatory tools) to inform project objectives.
- Monitor intervention fidelity and troubleshoot operational challenges to ensure smooth and effective implementation of planned interventions.
- Conduct periodic reflection meetings with stakeholders and communities to review progress, identify challenges and promote local participation and ownership in decision-making.
- Document field activities, stakeholder interactions, community feedback, interventions progress, challenges, and lessons learnt for continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
- Capture insights on adaptive strategies for health systems under climate stress.
- Ensure timely submission of field-level data and reports with the central team, with accuracy and completeness.
- Integrate gender, equity and inclusion principles into all activities to promote equitable health systems.
- Develop knowledge products in consultation with central research team and support dissemination at the local level.
- Coordinate effectively with provincial, municipal and other relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation and alignment of project activities with broader health system goals.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND COORDINATION
- Work closely with the Project lead and coordinate project activities across different workstreams to ensure efficient delivery of project activities, including knowledge management, communication, and monitoring outputs.
- Develop and implement project work plans, monitoring frameworks, and communication strategies in coordination with the Project lead and relevant team members.
- Support the team in organizing and conducting stakeholder and partner coordination meetings, exchange visits, training sessions, and workshops.
- Prepare regular monthly, quarterly, and annual progress reports for internal and external stakeholders, supporting evidence-based decision-making and program improvement.
- Collaborate closely with partners and government stakeholders to support research, monitoring, and data system strengthening.
- Ensure all project activities comply with donor, partner, and organizational policies and standards.
ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND TEAM CONTRIBUTION
- Actively participate in organizational meetings, trainings, workshops, and seminars to contribute to both project-specific and strategic initiatives.
- Support the implementation of organizational policies and guidelines, ensuring adherence to best practices and compliance standards.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment by sharing information, supporting colleagues, and fostering collective problem-solving.
The above list of responsibilities is not comprehensive, and the Project Coordinator may be required to take on additional responsibilities, as determined by the Line Manager or other team members, to meet activity/organizational needs and requirements.
Job Specification
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
These foundational qualifications and experiences ensure that the Project Coordinator can effectively contribute to HERD International’s vision and goals.
- A Master’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Science, Climate Change or related discipline.
- At least 5 years of progressive experience in health systems and climate resilience projects.
- Understanding of local health system structures, and health systems and climate change linkages.
- Experience in implementation research or participatory action research will be considered an advantage.
- Proven ability in coordinating multi-stakeholder projects, with ability to work with diverse communities and maintain cultural sensitivity.
- Strong facilitation and communication skills, and experience in participatory planning processes.
- Excellent documentation and reporting skills in both English and Nepali.
- Ability to work independently and travel frequently within the assigned province.
