Job Description

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

The anticipated roles and responsibilities of District Agriculture Officer include, but are not limited to the following:

Planning, Coordination, and Implementation

  • Act as the primary contact person for the project in the district and make sure activities are carried out as planned and on time.
  • Plan, implement, monitor, and review field-level activities in close coordination with the Project Manager and other team members.
  • Coordinate and work with local government institutions, agricultural offices, cooperatives, lead farmers, and partners to ensure smooth implementation and collaboration.
  • Support Palikas in developing and carrying out annual agriculture and sectoral plans through a participatory approach.

Technical Support and Capacity Building

  • Collaborate with HERDi team members and partners to develop educational packages and manuals on pollination conservation and management.
  • Develop training materials and conduct sessions on key pollinator-dependent fruits, vegetables and beekeeping promotion.
  • Provide technical guidance to District Agriculture Technicians, outreach facilitators, volunteers, and teachers on pollination conservation and management.
  • Provide technical support to lead farmers in managing demonstration farms showcasing the evidence-based Pollinator Stewardship Scheme
  • Supervise in running of FFS sessions, awareness classes, and experiments on pollination management practices and beekeeping
  • Promote sustainable farming methods to increase crop productivity and improve biodiversity.Organize and facilitate stakeholder meetings, review sessions, trainings, and exchange visits.

Research, Documentation, and Learning

  • Carry out research activities (baseline, follow-up, end-line surveys) independently or in collaboration with team members, using appropriate methods.
  • Document research findings and lessons through reports, project progress, case stories, and policy briefs.
  • Contribute to developing and sharing knowledge products such as manuals, fact sheets, photo stories, and short videos.
  • Capture and share good practices and lessons learned for future improvement.

Monitoring, Reporting, and Data Management

  • Monitor project activities in alignment with outputs, administer study tools, periodically collect valid data, and record project indicators (biodiversity surveys, crop yield assessments, etc.)
  • Maintain proper data systems and ensure information is well-organized and reliable.
  • Monitor progress through field visits, review meetings, and feedback sessions, and help the team make necessary adjustments.
  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual progress reports to the project team.

Administrative and Organizational Support

  • Follow organizational policies, guidelines, and reporting standards.
  • Ensure timely submission of technical and financial reports as required.
  • Participate in project and organizational meetings, trainings, and workshops.
  • Foster teamwork and collaboration by sharing ideas and supporting colleagues.

The above list of responsibilities is not comprehensive, and the District Agriculture Officer may be required to take on additional responsibilities, as determined by the Line Manager or other team members, to meet activity/organizational needs and requirements.

Job Specification

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

These foundational qualifications and experiences ensure the District Agriculture Officer can effectively contribute to HERD International’s project.

  • A Master’s degree in Agroecology, Entomology, Horticulture, or a related discipline from a recognized institution, with at least two years of relevant professional experience; or a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture with a minimum of five years of experience in insect pollination, agrobiodiversity, or agroecosystem management projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Nepali and English.
  • Residency in the project implementation district, or prior knowledge and/or work experience in the district, with a willingness to reside there for the duration of the assignment.
  • Candidates holding a valid motorbike/scooter driving license will be given priority.
