Job Description
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
The anticipated roles and responsibilities of Health System Strengthening Coordinator include but are not limited to the following:
Project Management
- Engage actively with local stakeholders including municipalities, health facilities, and community representatives to identify gaps and challenges within the local health system.
- Facilitate inclusive and participatory processes for problem identification and prioritization of quick-win interventions, leading to the development of actionable plans.
- Organize and facilitate dialogues and consultations with stakeholders at provincial and local levels to discuss health priorities and strategic actions.
- Support local governments in implementing agreed interventions aimed at strengthening health system performance in areas including human resources for health and health taxation.
- Provide targeted technical assistance to enhance the capacity of municipalities in strengthening areas of health systems.
- Document health system issues, interventions, progress, and lessons learned systematically to inform continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
- Prepare timely reports and share updates with the central team, ensuring accuracy and completeness of information.
- Support monitoring and evaluation of activities, including data collection, validation, and analysis at the local level to track progress and outcomes.
- Integrate gender, equity and inclusion principles into all activities to promote equitable health systems.
- Coordinate effectively with provincial, municipal and other relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation and alignment with broader health system goals.
Teamwork and Additional Duties:
- Contribute to team-based activities, work collaboratively, share information openly, and pursue common goals with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders.
- Participate in different meetings, trainings, workshop, events and seminars as required for the organization.
The above list of responsibilities is not comprehensive, and the Health System Strengthening Coordinator may be required to take on additional responsibilities, as assigned by the Line Manager or other team members, to meet activity/organizational needs and requirements.
Job Specification
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
These foundational qualifications and experiences ensure the Health System Strengthening Coordinator can effectively contribute to HERD International’s Research Team and its data-driven initiatives.
- Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Science or related discipline.
- Minimum five years of progressive experience in health system strengthening, local health governance and related areas.
- Strong understanding of local health system structures, functions, and challenges in the context of Nepal’s federalized health systems.
- Proven ability in stakeholder engagement, facilitation, and participatory planning processes.
- Excellent documentation and reporting skills in both English and Nepali.
- Ability to work independently and travel frequently within the assigned province.
