Job Description

This position will be based at CIMMYT Nepal Office in Kathmandu.

Specific duties:

  • Manage geospatial databases and ensure the integration and geo-referencing of all project data
  • Work with project partners to aggregate spatial data from external sources, including remotely-sensed information.
  • Conduct geo-spatial analysis in consultation with the science team
  • Provide services on spatial analysis and mapping to the project team, including domain characterizations.
  • Train project staff in the fundamentals of geospatial analysis and software use.

Required academic qualifications, skills and attitudes:

  • Master’s degree in physical or biological sciences with an emphasis on spatial analysis and GIS. 3-5 years’ professional experience.
  • Excellent working experience with ArcGIS, as well as with remote sensing packages.
  • Broad knowledge of spatial data sets relevant to agriculture, particularly those available in Nepal.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural team.
  • Experience working in an NGO or on donor-funded projects a plus.
  • Good command of spoken and written English.
