Job Description

This position will be based at CIMMYT Nepal Office in Kathmandu.

Specific duties:

  • Develop a communications strategy that meets the needs of the project to reach different internal and external audiences.
  • Raise awareness of the value and impact of the project through appropriate products and media channels.
  • Pursue strategic communications activities;
  • Support and advise the Project Coordinator in his/her communications and outreach with external audiences, including progress reports and newsletters; write and edit compelling, scientifically accurate copy for diverse audiences and formats; ensure proper branding.


Required academic qualifications, skills and attitudes:

  • Master’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations & management, organizational management or related fields.
  • At least 5-7 years of experience in science communications, marketing, public relations and media campaigns.
  • The candidate should be able to provide examples from previous work, which were authored exclusively or primarily by the candidate.
  • Non-profit experience or demonstrated understanding of the non-profit and/or agricultural research for development environments.
  • Ability to express technical concepts in clear and simple language for diverse audiences, including the general public.
  • Proficiency in use of social networking and new media tools.
  • Excellent spoken and written English is required, including an ability to write and edit a wide variety of documents for different audiences.
