Background:

DRR Expert is entrusted with the responsibility lead DRR and WASH program area of the project. As and when necessary, the DRR Expert shall coordinate with the Emergency Response and Disaster Risk Reduction Coordinator (ERDRRC) for technical guidance. The DRR Expert shall perform within the framework of LWF Nepal’s Country Strategy, Country Annual Plan (CAP) and Project Documents (PDs). 

GENERAL

  1. Familiarize and work in accordance with the Vision, Mission, Overall Goals and Objectives of LWF as a Humanitarian Organization.
  2. Familiarize and work in accordance with the established strategies of LWF Nepal.
  3. Familiarize and work accordance with the LWF Nepal policies.
  4. Be free from the political influence of any parties and the political activates

Job Description:

  • Develop DRR strategy for the project
  • Take lead in assessment, planning, implementation, monitoring, management and reporting of overall DRR components of the project
  • Ensure DRR integration in all community infrastructure construction.
  • Make sure that Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) is mainstreamed and all the nine commitments of Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) is ensured  in all other components and activities of the project
  • Strengthen capacity of LWF and Implementing Partner staff in DRR
  • Develop detailed implementation plans (Annual, trimester and monthly plan and monitoring the progress status) for each activities and ensure their impleentation.
  • Conduct monitoring and reporting of DRR, and ensure that, lessons learnt through monitoring and evaluations are captured, capitalized and incorporated into future proposal design
  • Develop monitoring and evaluation tools and monitor project activities (on DRR) against the targets and ensure quality and timely delivery of projects outputs and outcomes
  • Maintain database of the DRR components
  • Ensure budgets and expenditures are monitored in compliance with financial regulations.
  • Perform training need assessment of the staff of Implementing Partner on DRR and provide training as and when necessary
  • Identify potential linkage, coordination and collaboration opportunities to other development organization.
  • Coordinate, collaborate and organize meeting with various stakeholders for synergy and to compliment/supplement each other.
  • Documentation of case studies and success stories and sharing it to other communities.
  • Carry out additional duties assigned/requested by Project Manager.

Job Specification

Qualification and Experience:

  • Master degree in Disaster Risk Management and/or any other relevant field from recognized university; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum five years of experience in DRR program implementation
  • Committed to work in earthquake affected areas, live and work with the local community
  • Experience in coordination with different range of stakeholders
  • Experience in building capacity on DRR
  • Demonstrated technical and practical skills, experience in working with community, good social mobilization and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in complex environments under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and ability to work independently are required.
  • Proficient in computer skills with good MS Office and good writing, including MS Word, Excel and Power Point preparation.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Nepali with proficiency in reporting required.
  • High level of organizational ability, integrity and team building.
