Job Description

Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH invites applications for the following position from suitable and qualified professionals for the Inclusive Development of the Economy (INCLUDE) Programme. The INCLUDE Programme is a joint Nepal-German Programme under the guidance of the Ministry of Industry (Mol), Government of Nepal with Technical Assistance by the GIZ, commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

 

The Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF) endorsed a proposal from the Ministry of Commerce (Moo) "Implementing the NTIS in the Sector of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs)" called IN-MAPS to fund activities related to the National MAPs plan of action. The Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation (MoFSC) is responsible for the overall coordination and supervision of the IN-MAPS through the Project Steering Committee (PSC).

 

Position:          Programme Officer: Value Chain Management Medicinal & Aromatic Plants

Duty station: Kathmandu

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The PO, under the overall technical and disciplinary supervision of the Senior Programme Officer (SPO): Value Chain Management Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, would be responsible for:

 

·         Implementing the activities especially related to the capacity development of

·         government and private agencies engaged in MAPs

·         Providing technical expertise on trade support services for promoting MAPs products in

·         international target markets, quality infrastructure related to value addition and product

·         development

·         Coordinating with the Department of Plant Resources, Plant Protection Directorate

·         including National Plant Quarantine Programme, Department of Customs, commodity

·         associations, related community based organisations and their apex body including

·         any other relevant offices involved in providing trade support services to the private

·         sector and communities

·         Implementing the specific activities as defined in the MAPS Action Plan

·         Developing Terms of References for contracts and supervise their implementation

·         Assisting to ensure agreed activities, time lines and outcomes are delivered as per plan

·         Ensuring cooperation with Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) and reporting

·         Coordinating with other relevant activities of GIZ and other development partners

·         Ensuring a synergetic cooperation with the other outcome-areas of the project and with other actors in the Value Chain

 

Required qualification and experience:

Master's Degree in Agriculture, Forestry Economics, Management, or any relevant field

·         Experience of 5 years in a similar position, preferably in Nepal (trade support services

·         for international marketing, technical and economical understanding of MAPs sector, monitoring and evaluation etc.)

·         Ability to work independently and with a solution oriented attitude

·         Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

·         Good negotiation skill and a good team player

·         Very good communication of English and Nepali (both written and verbal)

·         Sound computer skills in MS Office and typing skills in both English and Nepali
