Position: Monitoring Community Mobilizer

Field Visits: Frequent travel to local community 
Core Function: The Monitoring CommunityMobilizer will be responsible for supervision of the partner organization regarding community mobilization aspect of the project with support from the district project team including a Project Officer and Project Engineer for their respectively job aspects
This position reports to: Project Officer
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with contextualizing PASSA and similar customized participatory approaches (PCPA) in the Nepal Disaster Risk, Reduction & Response (DRRR) context and fitting it into the HFH Build Nepal program, including a vulnerability index verification system facilitating the implementation of the Tier Service Model
  • Assist with PCPA training on national, district and VDC level when required
  • Working relationship between NGO and local authorities
  • Setting-up and implementation of community mobilization activities
  • Implementation of PASSA and similar customized participatory approaches (PCPA);
  • Implementation of identified community projects as per PCPA
  • Identification of beneficiaries as per vulnerability index, and preparation of Tier service model
  • Ensure coordination between MFI and NGO for support to Tier 2 level beneficiaries
  • Set-up and implementation of beneficiary feedback mechanism
  • Liaise with local government on behave of Habitat Nepal
  • Support the NGO in their community mobilization capacity
  • Build the capacity of the NGO in community mobilization
  • Continue monitoring, record all activities in well manages documentation
  • Provide line manager with monthly, quarterly and final reports
  • Fill-in for project management staff when called upon
  • Translate for foreign colleagues or volunteers, when needed
  • Monitor the morale of the community - keep people working together toward a common goal
  • Provides SME support for GV build implementation, and works in close coordination with the GV Manager and other GV staff
  • Other related duties as assigned by supervisor
Knowledge and Skills:
  • High ability to read, write, speak and listen well in Nepali & English
  • Excellent in Word, Excel, PowerPoint (Microsoft Office Package)
  • Ability to stand in front of a group without showing fear or arrogance
  • Strong morals viz. honesty, transparency, generosity, altruism and respect
  • Well motivated, team member able to work without supervision
  • Ability to observe and analyze social indicators
Qualification and Professional Experience:
  • High school level of education preferred Bachelor Degree in Social Science
  • Skills, training and/or experience in management, social animation, and/or extension, social research, adult education, acting, journalism; advanced computer skills, internet:
  • Previous community mobilization experience or training will be assets.

Organization Summary

Habitat for Humanity started working in Nepal since 1997. In the eight years till 2005, Habitat for Humanity Nepal has helped 830 families to build decent homes in the districts of Kailali, Surkhet, Kaski, Chitwan and Jhapa. To increase its impact, HFH Nepal began to leverage on partnerships with non-governmental organizations, microfinance institutions, and village lending and saving groups. Driven by the overall vision of the organization, the Meaningful Life through Housing Campaign was launched in July 2011. Through the campaign, HFH Nepal aims to develop a people-driven and community-owned methodology to address the need for decent housing in a sustainable and viable way. Programs are largely focused on rural housing in eastern and western Nepal.

In June 2011, HFH Nepal celebrated its 10,000th family served and by the fiscal year ended 30 June 2014 more than 54,000 families were helped. The momentum continued until Nepal was hit by two major earthquakes on 25 April and 12 May, 2015.

The earthquakes, in April and May of 2015, destroyed and damaged more than 880,000 houses killing over 8,000 people. HFH Nepal’s disaster response included rubble removal with the help of local volunteers, distribution of temporary shelter kits and water backpacks for the affected families to enable survivors’ to fetch and store water. Through generous funding, HFH Nepal is helping affected families by providing technical assistance in conducting safety assessment of the damaged houses and distribution of winterization kits to the affected families to protect against the cold weather.

Through the Build Nepal strategy, Habitat Nepal is committed to building homes and hope in both disaster-affected and non-affected areas across the country.
