1. Summary:
Habitat for Humanity Nepal seeks a competent, committed and result-oriented candidate for a Grant Writer Specialist position with extensive project development experience, preferably within the humanitarian and housing sectors. S/he will be a part of the Resource Development team and will work closely with the program team to develop grant proposals, concept notes and reports. S/he must be highly proficient in various styles of writing in English to cater to different donors and audiences.

2. Background:
The two earthquakes in Nepal, April 25th and May 12th 2015, left over half a million homes destroyed and many additional households damaged. In response, HFH Nepal implemented volunteer driven rubble removal; temporary shelter and winterization kit distribution; as well as the designing and building of permanent houses demonstrating different technologies. Now HFH Nepal is embarking on, in alignment with the National Reconstruction Authority, an owner driven reconstruction phase. The agency has redesigned its approach and will focus on 4 major thematic areas: social mobilization, technical assistance, tiered financial assistance and market development. Due to our expanding program and donor base, HFH Nepal is looking for an experienced Grant Writer Specialist for our team.

3. Objectives for the role:
ï‚· Work with the communications and programs team to develop new written concept notes for the identified areas of work.
ï‚· Assist both the teams to develop relevant project planning documentation in relation to proposal delivery.
ï‚· Take the lead in the strategy and proposal writing for additional funding needs to support HFH Nepal’s strategic plan.

4. Responsibilities:
ï‚· Coordinate with the program team to prepare and write grant proposals, concept notes, and reports persuasively communicating the organization’s mission and programs to potential funders.
ï‚· Develop log frames for project proposals in coordination with the programs team
ï‚· Assemble grant requests, including letters, proposals and budgets.
ï‚· Track and document work progress of each funded program through the preparation of high quality reports required for the relevant donors
ï‚· Maintain calendars to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposal deadlines, and reports.
ï‚· Work closely with the Program, Operations and Finance Team.
ï‚· Communicate with HFH’s Asia Pacific Area Office as required.

5. Qualification:
ï‚· Master’s degree in either Communications, International Development Studies, Marketing or Business Administration preferred.
ï‚· 3 Years of relevant experience in writing and editing strategies, concept notes and reports, contents for websites and other documents for a variety of audiences and external publication.
ï‚· Relevant experience working on successful fundraising proposals is required, either for a company, non-profit or on a freelance basis.

7. Selection Criteria:

HFHN is looking for someone who:
ï‚· Is a credible competent local national
ï‚· Has previous experience in grant proposal development and editing.
ï‚· Has familiarity with the shelter context in Nepal.
ï‚· Proposal and Report writing skills.
ï‚· Must have excellent written and oral skills in English.

Organization Summary

Habitat for Humanity started working in Nepal since 1997. In the eight years till 2005, Habitat for Humanity Nepal has helped 830 families to build decent homes in the districts of Kailali, Surkhet, Kaski, Chitwan and Jhapa. To increase its impact, HFH Nepal began to leverage on partnerships with non-governmental organizations, microfinance institutions, and village lending and saving groups. Driven by the overall vision of the organization, the Meaningful Life through Housing Campaign was launched in July 2011. Through the campaign, HFH Nepal aims to develop a people-driven and community-owned methodology to address the need for decent housing in a sustainable and viable way. Programs are largely focused on rural housing in eastern and western Nepal.

In June 2011, HFH Nepal celebrated its 10,000th family served and by the fiscal year ended 30 June 2014 more than 54,000 families were helped. The momentum continued until Nepal was hit by two major earthquakes on 25 April and 12 May, 2015.

The earthquakes, in April and May of 2015, destroyed and damaged more than 880,000 houses killing over 8,000 people. HFH Nepal’s disaster response included rubble removal with the help of local volunteers, distribution of temporary shelter kits and water backpacks for the affected families to enable survivors’ to fetch and store water. Through generous funding, HFH Nepal is helping affected families by providing technical assistance in conducting safety assessment of the damaged houses and distribution of winterization kits to the affected families to protect against the cold weather.

Through the Build Nepal strategy, Habitat Nepal is committed to building homes and hope in both disaster-affected and non-affected areas across the country.
