ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION 

Founded in 2004, Build Change is a non‐profit social enterprise whose mission is to save lives in earthquakes and hurricanes. Build Change designs safe buildings, trains homeowners, builders, engineers and government officials to build them, works with governments to develop and implement building standards, partners with the private sector to improve building materials quality and create jobs, and facilitates access to incentive-based capital for reconstruction and retrofitting by partnering with financing institutions and government subsidy programs. Build Change started its work in Aceh, Indonesia, after the 2004 earthquake and tsunami, and since has expanded to include programs in China, Haiti, Colombia, Guatemala, the Philippines and Nepal. Build Change has trained more than 25,300 people on earthquake-resistant design and construction techniques, guided 31 organizations in using homeowner-driven design, created almost 12,000 jobs and provided technical assistance for more than 48,700 safer buildings, impacting an estimated 245,026 people.  

 
POSITION DESCRIPTION  

Build Change is currently seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Partnership Development and Reporting Officer. This position requires a highly organized and competent professional to assist the smooth and effective functioning of partnership development and reporting under the direct supervision of Country Director.    

RESPONSIBILITIES:  
  • Assist Nepal Country Director in securing new grants. Write applications for technical/housing/school reconstruction awards and grants
  • Develop at least 2 major funded partnerships per year with corporations, governments, multi-laterals, NGOs, or other agencies
  • Liaise with Partnership Development & Reporting Manager and HQ development team to develop, diversify and execute Build Change’s annual fundraising plan for Nepal
  • Support Partnership Development & Reporting Manager in performing grant and award research, cultivation, positioning and proposal writing for unrestricted funding from foundations, HNWIs, corporations and other agencies
  • Support Partnership Development & Reporting Manager in performing research, cultivation, positioning and proposal writing for program funding from partner agencies for Build Change’s program in Nepal; Translate proposals into Nepali if needed
  • Work with the Nepal Country Director to build relationships with partner institutions such as humanitarian, multi-lateral, and non-profit agencies  
  • Liaise with Partnership Development & Reporting Manager to prepare and submit fund development pipeline reports and partnership tracking reports to Nepal Country Director and to HQ
  • Use and regularly update Salesforce, Constant Contact, and other donor databases and marketing tools  
  • Support Partnership Development & Reporting Manager, and work closely with program management, structural engineering team leader and construction training team leader to produce on-time, high quality grant and progress reports  
  • Support the Nepal Country Director in representing Build Change in networks and meetings with partner organizations  
  • Support the Nepal Country Director in advocating for Build Change’s strategic priorities and interests with governments, multilateral agencies and large funders
  • This position reports to the Nepal Country Director   

REQUIREMENTS:   
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Science or related field  
  • At least 3 years of progressive working experience in similar areas
  • Good planning and coordinating skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and  work efficiently under time pressure
  • Strong communication, analytical, reporting and organizational skills
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Nepali
