Job Description

Role and Duties

The HSE Manager will be based at Headquarters in Kathmandu and will be responsible for overseeing the health, safety, environmental and social performance of the Company, reporting to the Head of Human Resources Department. The HSE Manager will:

  • lead the development and implementation of an integrated environmental and social management system (ESMS) in line with international standards including ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001;
  • lead the creation of an H&S risk and impact assessment procedure and train workers in high-risk areas;
  • develop environmental management plans (EMPs) for construction and other activities as needed;
  • monitor contractor implementation of HSE requirements and ensure compliance;
  • oversee branch implementation of the ESMS with an emphasis on occupational health and safety;
  • designate and train responsible contacts at Headquarters and branch offices where appropriate;
  • drive the delivery and oversight of Environmental and Social action plans that have been agreed with investors;
  • report and monitor HSE issues to the HSE Committee, Board of Directors, the broader Company and external stakeholders as needed in collaboration with relevant personnel;
  • communicate regularly with investors who have interests in HSE aspects of the Company, coordinating and ensuring consistency in the delivery of monitoring;
  • identify opportunities to reduce emissions and improve energy management;
  • work with relevant colleagues to ensure robust engagement with stakeholders and communities.

 

Job Specification

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor degree
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a health, safety, environment role
  • Good working knowledge of Nepalese environment, health & safety and social legislation and associated permitting requirements
  • Experience of managing high risk construction activities including working at heights, civil construction, interaction with medium and low voltage electrical distribution networks
  • Experience of International Standards, including ISO14001, OHSAS 18001 and IFC Performance Standards
  • Experience managing different stakeholders, including contract and permanent employees, management, and investors
  • Business-level English proficiency
  • Willingness to travel to regularly around Nepal
