Job Description

United Mission to Nepal (UMN) is an international development organisation which strives to serve the people of Nepal by addressing root causes of poverty so that people can enjoy life in all its fullness. Multicultural teams of Nepali and volunteer expatriate staff work alongside local organisations in remote districts of the country, building partnerships that lead to healthy, dignified and empowered individuals, families, and communities.
Following the devastating earthquakes of 25 April and 12 May 2015, UMN has set up the Dhading Disaster Response Programme (DDRP) to assist the people of Dhading to rebuild their lives. It consists of three projects in each of two geographical areas of Dhading, one in the North and one in the South. The projects are concerned with reconstruction, livelihoods and social/environmental needs, and focus on the poorest people in the target VDCs.

Position: Protection Officer - based in Dhading Besi
The main responsibilities are to contribute to the implementation of Protection Activities with DDRP by providing expertise, monitoring and coaching support to Local Partner Organisation to execute programme activities in the project area. The Protection Officer will support the DDRP Team to build the capacity of team members and partner organisations
so that they implement programme activities effectively. The post-holder will report directly to the Project Manager - Human Effects and will be part of the Human Effects Team under DDRP Team.

Minimum qualification and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science;
  • 2 years or more experience of working in the area of child protection or women’s and children’s issues;
  • Experience of training/facilitation of workshops and managing projects;
  • Experience of working in remote rural settings preferred;
  • Excellent language and communication skills in both Nepali and English.
