Job Description

Under the overall guidance of the Project Coordinator and day-to-day oversight from the Project Engineer, the incumbent will carry out the following tasks:

  • Support to conduct series of consultations and coordination to identify key areas for livelihood inputs and capacity buildings. Support in assessing training needs for skill and enterprise development, conduct training and handholding leading to support in establishing enterprises.
  • Support to conduct series of consultation and coordination meetings for the site selection and verification, design options, ensure effective participation for its implementation and build a strong ownership of the public infrastructures (irrigation canals, trail, common facility center, Water mills etc.) during and after the construction.
  • Support conducting meetings, workshops and trainings to promote entrepreneurship and skill development for enhancing livelihood opportunities.
  • Carry out regular field visits to identify potential social issues and provide timely input and accurate updates on the status of ongoing work.
  • Support and prepare meeting minutes, event reports, event news, social media post, impact stories. field level database management, photo and video documentation of the event and systematic compilation of all relevant documents.
  • Ensure inclusion and accessibility in the construction and livelihood initiatives.
  • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders, including local government officials, UN-Habitat and UNDP teams, local implementing partner and community members, and assist to foster smooth coordination and teamwork for the successful delivery of project activities.
  • Support to prepare monthly, quarterly progress reports in coordination with the field engineer for donors reporting.
  • Perform any other assignments, as requested by the Habitat Programme Manager in consultation with the Regional Advisor.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Sociology, Anthropology, Development Studies, Entrepreneurship Development, Rural Development, Community Mobilization or related social field.

Knowledge, kills and Competency

  • Professionalism: Preference will be given to those with experience the field of social mobilization, entrepreneurship, gender and inclusion; Experience of inclusive development, local governance related project will be an additional asset; An established track record in project management of similar nature; Good human relations skills, especially the ability to relate to a wide range of team members and partners; Progressive thinking, ability to work as part of a team and also to achieve work outputs with limited supervision, and a pro-active, energetic and innovative approach to work;.
  • Teamwork: Able to work both independently and as part of a team and establish harmonious and effective working relationships both within and outside the organization. Ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships and working relations in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity. The candidate needs to have experience of working with multiple stakeholders including government, civil society and other partners.
  • Planning & Organizing: The candidate should be able to develop clear goals that are consistent with the agreed strategy; able to adapt to a new task and work context quickly and finish all duties within the given timeframe.
  • Client orientation: Experience in working with government institutions at national and local level is an advantage. Capable of working in a team and undertaking the initiative to ensure smooth relations and open communication within the team and with partners is required. Professional and courteous attitude and demonstrated ability to work effectively in a stressful environment.

Years of Experience and skills

Minimum two (2) years working experience in reconstruction and livelihood recovery, community engagement, skill and entrepreneurship development, GESI, LNOB, Inclusion, accessibility and local business promotion. Work experience with the local government and in participatory process in community mobilization will be preferred. Previous experience with UN agencies is an asset.

Languages

Excellent command (written and spoken) Nepali and English language is required

Core skill

Good knowledge and experience of working with MS Word/Excel and basic command of photography, videography
