Job Description

The Project Coordinator in close consultation with and guidance from the Habitat Programme
Manager shall be required to support in planning, implementing and managing the public space
improvement works. The PC will support developing implementation plans of the programme,
supervision to programme staff, and for liaising with the municipality, and NGO partners, beneficiaries
and community organizations.
Duties and Responsibilities


A. Work Planning and Implementation

  1.  Support HPM on designing and implementation the project.
  2.  Ensure the timely recruitment, mobilization and utilization of programme personnel, training and equipment inputs.
  3.  Prepare timely reports as and when required for the SMT and UN-Habitat Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP)
  4. Provide technical support and quality assurance to the project on public space management.
  5. Develop call for proposals and prepare Agreements of Cooperation/subcontracts as stipulated in the project document.
  6.  Organize trainings to the community on various aspects of sustainable public space development and management.
  7. Coordinate the activities in the field and supervise technical and community development staff.
  8. Coordinate, monitoring and provide technical support to partner municipalities, implementing partners and community groups.
  9. Take part in community meetings, meetings with municipality and the government
  10.  Prepare periodic progress reports of the project activities.
  11.  Support to disseminate promotional materials related to project activities.
  12. Represent UN-Habitat and coordinate with municipality, government agencies and other stakeholders.
  13. Develop additional projects/activities and explore funding possibilities.
  14.  Prepare exit strategy and further expansion of the project.
  15. Any others related task as assigned by the Team Leader and Habitat Programme Manager.

B. Knowledge Generation and Management


1. Ensure that the all the project activities, results and emerging impacts are disseminated
    through relevant media: webpages, newsletters, through UNCT, and all partner
    organizations.
2. Develop or modify Communication Strategy as per the need of the project in close
    consultation with UN-Habitat communications strategy. Produce best practices and
    lesson learned relating to the project and share with ROAP for publication.

Qualifications and Education
 Masters in Civil Engineering; Architecture or related field
Knowledge and skills

  • Progressive thinking, ability to work as part of a team and also to  achieve work outputs with limited supervision, and a pro-active,energetic and innovative approach to work; and
  • Sound practical knowledge of earthquake resilient building construction
  •  Working experience with communities will be will be beneficial.
  • Good understanding of detail building drawing, estimation and preparation Bill of Quantity (BoQ),
  • Working experience in development sectors (I/NGO) and municipalities will be beneficial
  • Ability to manage time in multi-tasking and conducting parallel activities, and to meet deadlines
  •  Preferably experience and knowledge of working in recovery shelter /UN system or work in international agencies will be beneficial

Years of experience Professional:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in building construction/ infrastructure development/ municipal development/ project management
  • Languages Fluency in English and Nepali, spoken and written is essential.
  • Computer skill Good working knowledge of computer programmes including MS Word,
  • Excel and Power Point. Autocad knowhow is additional benefit.
