Job Description

  • prepare long term hydrological series developed and adopted for energy generation, design flood peaks of different return periods, assess the probability of occurrence of 'GLOF' in the project catchment, and its impact on design flood if any.
  • Review the available flow/sediment data of hydrological stations, rainfall data of stations in the catchment, and other available hydro-meteorological data.
  • Developing computer systems to improve the efficiency of data collection and analysis.
  • Keeping up to date with new research and techniques in all areas of hydrology.
  • Carry out hydrological, meteorological, and sediment studies based on field measurement & updating the data to estimate the firm flow, mean monthly flows, and flood analysis for the design of the diversion works and spillway.
  • Carry out (2D) Hydraulic Modelling (numerical) to validate the estimated flow.
  • Perform a study of reservoir sedimentation showing probable delta propagation and their effects in live storage in a time interval of at least five years from reservoir operations.
  • Good skill on the software like HEC Series, LOADEST, SWAT, Arc-GIS for carrying our hydrological, meteorological, sedimentological, and climate change analysis.
  • Carryout the climate change study to examine its potential impacts on the projects.
  • Evaluate available data and provide recommendations regarding the feasibility of municipal projects such as hydroelectric power plants, Substations, irrigation systems, water supply, flood warning systems and other hydrological related fields.
  • Support in the establishment of simulation model optimization reservoir operation and power generation
  • Prepare the Hydrological, Meteorological and Sedimentological study reports including but not limited to the following:
  1. Analysis of the long-term hydrological series including flow duration curve used for power generation;
  2. The criteria and methods by which the data were used to estimate Maximum Probable Flood, Design Flood, reservoir inflow and flows to be diverted during project construction, and the need to use other methods to improve accuracy of results;
  3. Development of rating curves, confirmation of stage-discharge relationship and generation of an extended mean monthly and dry flow series for power and energy computation.
  4. Study the catchment characteristics from sediment point of view.
  5. Based on discharge, sediment (coarse, medium and fine) observations and analysis, compute and submit the data of discharge and sediment yield on daily, monthly and annual basis.
  6. Carryout Dam Break analysis in view of GLOF and PMF;
  7. Assessment of peaking energy;
  8. Carryout Sediment study/analysis, in consideration of sediment load during flushing of hydropower projects;
  9. Low flow hydrology, availability of water for flow releases;
  10. Analysis of GLOF study
