OB Description: WASH Officer (PAHAL Program, LNGO)

 

Position Overview:

The WASH Officer will be responsible/report to Program Coordinator (PAHAL,LNGO) and responsible for successful implementation of PAHAL program with focus on hygiene, sanitation and nutrition promotion activities at District/Village Development Committee (VDC) levels with the coordination of District Coordinator(PAHAL, MC) and other implementing partners of PAHAL. She/he will also be responsible for conducting training, facilitation, triggering. Provide technical support to the stakeholders (V-WASH-CC, FCHV, FUGs groups, WUC, community leaders) with regard to community mobilization and implementation of the PAHAL program. Maintain smooth coordination and support to District -WASH Coordination Committee (Water Supply and Sanitation Divisional Office - WSSDO, District Development Committee - DDC) and VDCs to prepare post-ODF Sanitation and Hygiene Strategy and execute the strategy. The role of the WASH officer will also be to coordinate with the SUAAHARA and other key stakeholders working in the WASH & nutrition sector at the district and field level.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide technical and professional support to WASH facilitator/Social mobilizer and sanitation volunteer on hygiene and sanitation matter for PAHAL program implementation at district and VDC level.

  2. Ensure the availability of accurate, complete and up-to-date information required for effective WASH program design, implementation, management, monitoring and evaluation at district and below levels.

  3. Serve as primary contact person for routine monitoring of WASH and Nutrition activities at the district and below levels and support during surveys and evaluations as required.

  4. Support district/VDC level stakeholders for planning, orientation, training and other relevant activities on WASH and nutrition issues.

  5. Support D-WASH CC, V-WASH CC to prepare and execute District and VDCs post-ODF sanitation and hygiene strategy and plans.

  6. Represent and work as a D-WASH-CC member on behalf of PAHAL program and contribute for District ODF/Post ODF programs.

  7. Support WSSDO/VDCs to conduct CLTS training at District / VDC level. And ensure the WASH components related to total sanitation activities are implemented in line with the Sanitation and Hygiene Master Plan- 2011; and other relevant policies and guidelines of the government.

  8. Coordinate with PAHAL Program, Regional WASH Program Coordinator, for technical advice, integration of WASH and nutrition components with other thematic interventions during planning, designing and implementation.

  9. Support to form / reactivate and capacitate the V-WASH-CCs/Child clubs.

  10. Support to organize the various district and community level sanitation and hygiene campaign as well as manage all the IEC/BCC materials for distribution.

  11. Support to design and conduct the district, VDC/school level nutrition, hygiene and sanitation related events (i. e. rallies, folk song competition, quiz competition, video display).

  12. Facilitate the process of planning, mainstreaming and learning of nutrition approaches and interventions within all the PAHAL thematic area.

  13. Support to organize nutrition related training, orientation, workshop at the district and VDC level.

  14. Facilitate to disseminate the WASH and nutrition related messaging from the district, VDC and up to the ward level at different group existing in the community (For example: Forest User Group, Water User Groups, Child Club, cooperative groups, farmer groups e.t.c) through other thematic area of the PAHAL.

  15. Coordinate and organize the process of review and joint monitoring of nutrition and WASH program with government counterparts and relevant stakeholders for review and monitoring of nutrition and WASH program to ensure achievement of objectives and attainment of high quality interventions. Recommend corrective actions when necessary to meet the objectives.

  16. Facilitate the process of capturing, documenting and disseminating project experiences, achievements, good practice as lesson learnt, case studies and progress reports related to nutrition and WASH to concerned stakeholders.

  17. Coordinate and engage with key nutrition partners (especially Suaahara) and other project stakeholders and ensure their participation at different stages of project implementation as required.

  18. Work as a PAHAL LNGO team member and maintain smooth coordination and communication with other thematic Officers/ staff members.

  19. Prepare progress reports, case studies and accomplish the reporting as agreed.

  20. Co-ordinate with district level stakeholders and develop/support the school WASH and nutrition plan by incorporating child to child approach in district/VDC level.

  21. Establish a process and regularize with professional support to child club/V-WASH-CC for addressing the VDCs level issues and challenges related to WASH and nutrition.

  22. Ensure Good Governance, Child Centered Community Development Approach, gender equity and social inclusion in all aspects of WASH and nutrition interventions.

  23. Accomplish the other necessary activities related to the office and program and tasks assigned by the Supervisor.

 

 

Qualification / Requirements:

Minimum bachelor level passed from recognized board/university and 3 years work experience in the related field. Good communication skill both Nepali and English. Willing to work with children, Poor and excluded groups. The candidates who have bachelor level degree with specialization in Public health & Sociology would be an added advantage.

Partnership with local institutions is an important means of increasing the reach and sustainability of CRDS programs, while increasing the institutional capacity of CBOs. Today, CRDS Nepal operates in 41 VDCs of remote part of Darchula Districts & far western development region through 7 community development programs. Now It has expanded its working area throughout Nepal. National level programs are being coordinated by central office established in kathmandu.

It is one of the pioneering NGOs that have adopted the Participatory Approach in working with marginalized families and communities in delivering developmental programs in Darchula district of Nepal.
