Position Overview:

The Program Associate-Girls Education Program (PA-GEP) will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of Room to Read’s GEP program in direct supervision of Program Officer-GEP The Program Associate will be involved in implementing and monitoring of Scholarship program.  S/he will be constantly engaged in working to improve the GEP program by engaging Schools, Teachers and Students with the aim of ensuring that Room to Read’s GEP program is being  effectively operated.  This position requires skills in planning, implementing project activities, program documentation,   report writing, networking with students and teachers, identifying potential partners, and book keeping, accounting and some office administration knowledge. The Associate will also supervise the GEP Staff (Mobilizer) of the district. The incumbent will also spend about 25-30 percent of time doing administrative & finance and GSD related work. The Program Associate will report to the Program Officer in terms of program, Administration Manager and Finance Manager for admin and financial part and coordinates with RM&E Manager and Data Entry Associate for GSD part. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Development & Planning
  • Manage and oversee the girls on scholarship in project district for quality outcome 
  • Actively participate in annual planning and budgeting supporting supervisor.
Implementation
  • Conduct Life skill sessions to scholar girls based on life skill manual.
  • Documentation, filling out the monitoring tool etc.
  • Conduct regular interaction and meetings with the girls to ensure that scholarship program is running well and girls are performing well in their studies. Also conduct different awareness programs in the project district.
  • Provide necessary help and liaison with school so the girls on scholarship are provided with all the scholarship material support in a timely and effective manner
  • Coordinate with the Program Officer in a timely manner to effectively support the girls
  • Visit homes of girls as per the need to ensure that there is conducive environment in their homes to study
  • Keep records of all the girls on scholarship of district
  • Supervise the GEP staff in project district in coordination with the PO/PM
  • Assist the coordination committee of Field Office (comprising of SR PO, RR PO & CRPA) to do administration and finance work of Field Office in coordination with Kathmandu Office Administration.
  • Activate Child club and orient on child marriage, child rights and life skill education.
  • Participate actively in capacity building trainings for self-professional development
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Assist in GSD data entry in coordination with RM&E Manager & Data Entry Associate of Kathmandu Office.  
Networking & Advocacy
  • Initiate meeting with Teachers, girl’s parents regularly for effective implementation of the program
  • Represent Room to Read at relevant meetings and occasionally assist in hosting key donor visits.
Reporting
  • Prepare case studies of girls in close coordination with Program Officer (PO)/Program Manager (PM) in Kathmandu
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports and submit to the supervisor

Qualifications:

Required:
  • Master’s degree in a related field of study, e.g., education, social work, or related development sector
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience
  • Experience working in the field of gender equality, education, life skills education, and/or community-and youth-development
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing program improvements that achieve results
  • Knowledge, understanding, and experience in conducting trainings for adults and adolescents
  • Experience adapting program and/or training content to fit different contexts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
  • Strong planning, supervising, and program development skills
  • Prior success working and building relationships with diverse groups of people
  • Understanding of monitoring, evaluation, and process documentation
  • Ability and desire to travel frequently to Room to Read program sites
Preferred:
  • Significant experience working in Nepal with government schools, teachers, youth workers, and school-going adolescents
  • Experience with mentoring, coaching, and/or providing capacity building support
  • Prior experience in a fast-paced, growth-oriented global or regional organization
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously and take initiative
  • Effectiveness in working in a non-governmental organization that is focused on maintaining high quality work and low overhead
