Job Description

1. Title of Assignment
Junior Communications Consultant to assist in planning, managing, executing and monitoring both the internal and external communication requirements of Sunaulo Parivar Nepal, implementing partner of Marie Stopes International Nepal.

2. Background and Rationale
Marie Stopes International is a not-for-profit sexual and reproductive health (SRH) organization that uses modern business methods to achieve the social goal of preventing unintended pregnancies and unplanned births in 43 countries worldwide. Marie Stopes International delivers state-of-the-art programmes in: family planning; safe abortion (including post abortion care); maternal & child health; and HIV/STIs.
Marie Stopes International and our local implementing partner, Sunaulo Parivar Nepal (SPN) are fully committed on delivering overall impact across the SRH and FP sectors of Nepal, directly influencing and contributing to key deliverables such as CYP, maternal mortality and overall SRH service uptake, while still maintaining an unswerving focus on attaining sustainability as a social business.

At the heart of SPN/MSIN’s social business strategy is marketing and communications. We are promoting the concept of ‘choice over chance’ and are constantly striving to be more innovative and efficient in doing so; to ensure that we are making a measurable impact.

Efficiency makes room for innovation and vice versa. No organization can be efficient without timely, accurate and consistent communication platforms shared throughout a strategic communication network, both internal and external. The Junior Communications Consultant will assist in calibrating existing platforms and refine its potency while constantly exploring innovative ideas for message delivery that will ultimately result in the increase of service uptake at any of our service channels by our youth target segment.

Based on our current marketing and communication strategy, there are various areas of focus that need to be emphasized:
1. Training youth and service delivery team members on various demand generation processes and techniques and developing training materials to support this.
2. Developing various IEC materials that will actually result in behavior change.
3. Working on enhancing customer experience at all our service channels.
4. Developing, executing, managing and monitoring all the demand generation and behavior change communication activities required by various projects in coordination with the operations department, project managers and coordinators.
5. Establishing and maintaining all social, digital and mobile media platforms and ensuring a consistent and distinct brand presence in all the aforementioned platforms.
6. Reviewing and ratifying all current marketing channels and promotional vehicles and devising an impact analysis mechanism.
7. Integrating all marketing and communications platforms for target segments in line with our Marketing
Excellence Framework.
8. Finding various methods to maintain branding standards, increase brand awareness and enhance brand perception.
9. Developing a platform for internal communications.
10. Devising a mechanism to track and maintain vendor, media, external (government and stakeholders) and public relations.

 

3. Objective of the Assignment
The main objective of this assignment is to assist with the overall integrated marketing and communications strategy for the overall target segment and increase SRH/FP awareness, SPN/MSIN brand awareness and, ultimately, service uptake through all service channels by championing demand generation and behavior change communication for both internal and external parties.

4. Key Tasks and Deliverables

1. COORDINATE WITH THIRD PARTIES
- Coordinate the development and production of deliverables with vendors and preferred suppliers/Communication agency of SPN/MSIN on regular basis.
- Constant monitoring and evaluation of quality of deliverables and follow processes of protocols inside the organization.
- Help monitor impact of all releases at all service channels
- Work in close coordination with communications agency Within 1 month of start date

2. TRAINING
- Deliver demand generation and behavior change communication training as required by various projects
Within 4 months of assignment start date
3. MEDIA RELATIONS ASSISTANCE

- Coordinate and maintain good relations with regional and national media groups to ensure good coverage of SPN/MSIN activities and brand positioning. Within 1 month of start date
4. DIGITAL MEDIA
- Takes pictures and videos of training events to be developed into content for the SPN/MSIN website, social media accounts
- Uploads SPN/MSIN photos and videos to the appropriate server or Dropbox account.
- Organizes and archives digital images and videos
- Completes other digital media projects as assigned
- Creating engaging content for blogs, websites, and social media channels
- Creating content using Final Cut Pro, Sparkol, Piktochart
- Experience of digital evaluation and analysis e.g Google Analytics
- Filming and editing skills
- Using Photoshop Within 2 months of assignment start date
5. EVENTS
- Categorize events as national, local and various promotional events such as: centre re-launch and relocation, etc.
- Help coordinate the execution of all events. Within 2 months of assignment start date
6. TRAVEL
- Travel to program specific districts as and when necessary. Immediately from start date.
5. Reporting, Liaison and Work base
The Junior Communications Consultant will report directly to Communications Consultant of SPN/MSI Nepal, and will coordinate with applicable members of the Senior Management Team including the Country Director.
6. Evaluation of Consultant’s Performance 

Performance of the consultant will be evaluated on the basis of the following key achievements:
ï‚· Completion of the tasks or producing deliverables as mentioned in this ToR.
ï‚· Feedback from operations department and other members of the Senior Management Team.
ï‚· Final evaluation will be conducted by the Director – Marketing and Communications.

7. Academic qualification, Skills & Experience Required
The Consultant should have the following academic qualifications, skills/competencies and experiences:
a. Academic qualification:
A university Bachelor's Degree in Social Science, Mass Communication, Journalism, Marketing or equivalent education at a minimum.
b. Skill and Experiences
ï‚· Good knowledge, working experience and understanding of Sexual Reproductive Health and Family Planning in the current Nepali context
ï‚· Strong verbal and written communication skills in Nepali and English, including the ability to effectively translate between the languages.
ï‚· Working proficiency in Microsoft Office programmes.
ï‚· Good understanding and, preferably, experience with a variety of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Flikr, Instagram, etc.
ï‚· Good understanding and, preferably, experience with managing digital marketing (websites, blogs).
ï‚· Effective training facilitation skills.
ï‚· Effective media, vendor and public relations management skills and experience.
ï‚· Experience of producing a radio programme.
ï‚· Experience managing a call centre.
ï‚· Proven track record of managing multiple projects and achieving results while and meeting deadlines.

8. Additional Attributes
ï‚· High energy level, comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.
ï‚· Good communication skills, resourceful and well organized while planning and implementing projects.
ï‚· Results and people-oriented, with sound and logical judgment and the ability to balance other business considerations along with service orientation
