Job Description

Position: Executive Director

Location: Lalitpur

Reports to: Executive Board

Reported by: Program Director, Head of Operations and Knowledge Unit In-charge

WOREC Nepal is seeking a dynamic and competent candidate to fulfill the position of Executive Director at Central Office based in Balkumari, Lalitpur.

Qualifications and Experience: Master’s or M. Phil. Or PhD in Social Sciences, Management, Economics, Rural Development or related field with good understanding of development sector, rights based approach, human rights concepts and mechanisms and 5-7 years working experience in program management and at least three years working experience in leadership position.

Terms of Reference:

  1. Executive Director, in the capacity of the Executive Head of the Organisation, reports directly to the Chairperson and Advisors appointed by the Executive Body (Board).
  2. Under the direction and guidance of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will be responsible for the planning, organizing, staffing, motivating, directing, and management of the organisation.
  3. Executive Director leads the organization and represents the organization amongst the partners at different levels, stakeholders, government bodies, program supporting regional, international, bilateral and multilateral agencies, funding partners etc.
  4. Represent the organization in national and international forums and networks.
  5. As the position reports directly to the Executive body, the ED takes pertinent issues related to management and program implementation to the board and similarly incorporate suggestions from the Board to the managerial decision making process and ensure smooth running of the organization.
  6. Takes team leadership and oversees all the program and management of the organization. Take regular updates from Program Director regarding all the ongoing programs and activities and Operations Head regarding all the administrative and staff related issues in the organization and guide them through in managing both the program and the operations smoothly.
  7. Ensures that all campaigns and programs of the organization are well connected with the organisation’s vision, mission, goals and objectives and that the issues that come from the community are well linked with programs and campaigns led by the organization and are well embedded in the organisations advocacy and awareness programs and in policy interventions at national, regional and international levels.
  8. Provide overall leadership and guidance to the organization, design periodic review and planning and guide in implementation of planned activities and monitor outcomes and results of individual projects and the organization as a whole.
  9. Take active role in providing guidance to the organization, motivating employees and inspiring them to remain optimistic even during challenging time.
  10. Take regular update regarding staffing issues and ensure that staff’s issues are timely addressed and help the Operations department in staff development, capacity enhancement and retention.
  11. Ensure that a wide range of projects from broad portfolio of funding partners are maintained to ensure continuous funding, lowered risk and sustained financial support.
  12. Provide direct leadership to the Knowledge and Communiation Unit, demand periodic updates of fundraising, communication, publication and documentation functions. Help the Unit with media engagement and for voicing our issues to the public.
  13. Monitors, and engages directly with the fundraising unit and help them identify fund-raising opportunities, provide guidelines and vision to write new proposals and take lead role in finalizing the proposal thus written.
  14. Ensure that the oraganisation follows clearly set ethical standards and follow fundraising guidelines and policies approved by organisation’s political stand. Engage constantly with the funding partners and ensure responsible use of funds and ensure effective and timely communication with the funding partner and guide all concerned staffs and units to do the same.
  15. Encourage good performance, values and organization culture by constantly guiding the staff thasdough participation in regular staff meetings, periodic planning and review meetings and engaging in the issues timely and appropriately.
  16. Set high standards and live by these standards, constantly mentor the entire staff and help them with critical decision making. Through effective leadership, help in creating next generation of leaders within the organization.
  17. Advocating and embracing change as per the present situation, and ensuring that activities implemented are timely, of good quality and are relevant to the vision and mission of the organization.
  18. Support organization on all aspects where and when required

As the face of the WOREC, this role also cultivates and manages select donors. In addition to enhancing community presence through key media and community partner relationships, you will steward the local District Coordinators.
