Position:  Officer- Public Health

Location: RUDEC Nepal Project office Samundratar, Nuwakot

Application deadline:  6 April, 2022

Starting Date: 15 April, 2022

Duration of Contract: Fixed term till December 2022 (with possibility of extension)

Probation Period: 3 months

Gross Salary: NRs 698958 annum and will calculate as per financial policy with monthly basis (commensurate upon qualification and experience)

Background:

Rural Development and Empowerment Center (RUDEC), Nepal is a registered non-profit, non-political and non-governmental organization established in 1997 A.D (2054 B.S.) and operating through its head office at Bidur, district headquarter of Nuwakot. The organization is affiliated with Social Welfare Council, NGO Federation Nepal and NGO Coordination Committee. The goal of the organization is to improve socio-economic and health services and conserve natural resources, energy and environment for sustainable livelihoods of the marginalized and disadvantaged communities by improving their skill and knowledge, quality services and income opportunities. RUDEC Nepal has been working on critical issues of food security, education, rural infrastructure development, climate change and disaster risk management, renewable energy, environment, agriculture, natural resource management, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). It promotes community mobilization, gender equality, social inclusion and local resource mobilization for improving socio-economic conditions and health services of vulnerable communities. It undertakes public private partnership as an approach of sustainable development. It pursues networking, coordination and collaboration with national and international organizations to synergy of efforts.

With technical and financial support of GNI Nepal, RUDEC Nepal is going to implement “Integrated Community Development Project” in Nuwakot District.  The details responsibilities are given in the below for the position.

Job Description

The incumbent will be mainly focused on the following major duties and responsibilities.

Planning and Implementation:

  • Develop strategic plan on project operation in collaboration with donor organization, and local stakeholders.  
  • Design health and WASH related plan of action (PoA) and execute accordingly in the target areas.
  • Develop contents for educational activities and awareness campaign.
  • Revitalize community groups like health mother group (HMG), Health Facility Operation Management Committee (HFOMC), W/ S-WASH-CC.
  • Develop required standards of project interventions for the support to health facilities, schools, and community ensuring all the norms of inclusiveness to ensure health rights.

Training and Development:

  • Conduct orientation, training, interaction and discussion for sensitizing communities on Public Health Issues.
  • Facilitate to mobilize FCHVs and HMGs.
  • Facilitate workshop and training for enhancing capacity of FCHVs, HMGs, W/S-WASH-CCs, HFOMCs, PMCs, child club members, parents and community.  

MEAL

  • Carry-out periodical assessment of project in order to assess the gap in operational practices of project interventions.
  • Collect and compile training need assessment for FCHVs, HMG, HFOMC, ORC Management committees, Health Workers and W/S-WASH-CC.
  • Conduct field visits to observe, monitor and evaluate the project interventions and utilization status.
  • Submit periodic reports as per project requirement.
  • Compile experiences, lessons learnt, best practices and success stories of project.
  • Assist in feasibility study of infra activities.
  • Review physical and financial progress of project interventions.

 

Collaboration and Coordination

  • Extend coordination with concerned local government, schools, health facilities, community networks and other likeminded organizations, civil society and seek collaboration.
  • Participate in the programs/ meeting and discussions held at district, R/M, community level and share the learnings/ experiences.

 Qualification and required skills:

Education:

  • University degree in public health and related filed.

Job Specification

  • At least three years in adolescent sexual and reproductive health (ASRH), maternal, neonatal and child health (MNCH) and other public health projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of community health.
  • Hands on experience in social mobilization.
  • Should have team mobilization, leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate in English, Nepali, and local languages.
  • Ability to work under strict deadlines.
  • Proficiency in MS word, excel, PowerPoint, email and internet.
  • Should have two wheelers driving license.

Since its establishment, RUDEC has been working in Food Security, Education, Rural Infrastructure Development, Climate Change, Energy, Environment, Agriculture, Natural Resources Management, Drinking Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Health, Child Rights Human Rights, Peace and Democracy from funding support from different donor agencies for improving socio-economic and health condition of most deprived and disadvantaged people living in Nuwakot and its surrounding districts. It has adopted human right based approach through social mobilization and technical backstopping for strengthening service delivery mechanisms and promoting local technologies to address the poverty issues and also conserve and develop natural resources in order to foster sustainable development. In the process, RUDEC has carried out many targeted development activities focused on living condition of women, children, poor, deprived and disadvantaged communities by improving their basic services through basic social services (Education, Drinking water, Health, Hygiene and Sanitation) improvement and community infrastructure development in close coordination with local government authories.
