Job Description

Position: Senior Research Officer
Job location: Kathmandu, (70% field)
Salary: Competitive salary
Contract duration: One-year fixed term contract, renewable
Full Time, 40 hours per week

Major responsibility

Senior Research Officer will be responsible to lead the research and analysis component of the largescale multi-year project focus on social and political change processes in Nepal. He or She will be responsible for designing and leading research to generate understanding of socio-political and peacebuilding issues and lead capacity building of local partner organizations and stakeholders to develop their local research capacity contributing to formulation of policy and programmes. Additionally, he or She will play role in promoting of key learnings and findings for the improvement of the project and for wider leaning of the organisation. 

Skills, Qualification, and experience required

  • Master degree in social/political science, media studies, conflict and peacebuilding studies, law, policy and other relevant subjects with strong focus on research with at least five years of experience of leading and designing research and analyses resulting in high-quality research outputs and reports.
  • Strong understanding of socio-political economy and context of Nepal, particularly of terai region.
  • Knowledge of peacebuilding theory and practice
  • Sound understanding of Gender and Social Inclusion issues.
  • Skills to clearly communicate complex issues relating to conflict to a range of audiences;
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability to work in collaboration with individuals from different backgrounds
  • Fluency in Nepali and English and any other local languages of terai including Maithili, Bhojpuri, Awadhi and Tharu.
