Job Description

Position Title      :  Scholarship Project Officer  

Reports to :  District Coordinator as Immediate Supervisor/ Program Monitoring Officer as Line Manager  

Background:   Rural Education and Environment Development Center Nepal (REED Nepal) was established in 1995. It is a non-profit non-governmental national organization (NGO) registered in under the government of Nepal with the registration number 1015/057. It is committed to the protection and promotion of quality education and environment system in the rural areas. Previously, REED Nepal intervened its’ activity in Humla, Parsa, Kapilbastu and Myagdi. Currently, Solukhumbhu, Taplejung and Rasuwa are the residing districts where REED Nepal intervene its activity especially focused in the theme of Education. It is committed to the protection and promotion of environment and the education system in the rural areas. Previously, REED Nepal carried out its activities in Humla, Parsa, Kapilbastu and Myagdi. Currently, REED-Nepal is working in Solukhumbhu and Taplejung districts focusing on quality education. The major funding partners of REED Nepal are Australian Himalayan Foundation (AHF), Himalayan Trust UK (HTUK), Himalayan Trust New Zealand (HTNZ) and Himalayan Trust Nepal (HTN).  

Purpose

To ensure smooth running of Scholarship /Program activities in Scholarship program areas of Solukhumbu district

- To develop the understanding of relationship with community/local partners and government counterparts and REED Nepal team

- To understand the program activities, its sustainability and its impact in the district

- To understand the role and responsibility of the position  

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare detailed annual action plan of overall Scholarship program based on the annual plan of the organization in support of the REED team.

- Make field visits to the program areas for data collection as required and guided by Supervisor/Line Manager

- Facilitate the community stakeholders to be mobilized during program implementation.

- Prepare half yearly progress program report and submit to Supervisor/Line Manager.

- Liaise and coordinate with different stakeholders in the district to ensure the quality of work.

- Collect information of the scholarship program from field, tract the child movement from community or schools and keep records accordingly 

- Make home visit twice a year, provide parental counseling to promote parental involvement in quality education of child.

- Collect constructive feedback from key teachers, head teachers, teachers, SMC/PTA members, parents, government agencies and stakeholders to improve the management and implementation of Scholarship Program in working areas and report to District Coordinator (DC).

- Take a role of advocacy among parents/government to ensure child participating in extracurricular activities, improved personal hygiene practices, parents motivated to register birth date of their children, access to education, aware parents about the child rights.

- Submit the progress report monthly to the DC and keep the required data of the Scholarship program up-to-date and submit to DC whenever asked. 

- Make sure that the target beneficiaries have been benefited from the program

- Maintain official documents, individual child record files and keep update as progress made

- Give input to the program to enhance the quality of program as appropriate

- Fulfill the responsibilities effectively as assigned by the supervisor.    

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities-Required

- Bachelor with at least two years experience in related position

- Do have computer skills (Office package) and knowledge on database management is preferable

- Ability to work under pressure as per the organization need timeline.

- Willing to work full time in field 

- This role will work directly with District Coordinator.

- Able to communicate in oral and in written English and Nepali

- Ability to operate effectively and sensitively in the culture context.

- Show commitment, openness and eagerness to learn/adapt the changes within the organization and its ethos, mission, vision.

- Strong facilitation skills, including catalyzing, connecting, and building the capacity of community groups/people

- Strong understanding of community/people-led development work

- Strong commitment to build and work in a team environment
