Job Description

FUNCTION

The Project Officer will be responsible for completion of all activities and deliverables of the prototype project ‘Establishment of Community Initiatives for Genetic Improvement of Goats (CIGIG) in Western Nepal’. S/he will work in close collaboration and coordination with the Heifer Nepal Program team, project partners, cooperatives and local technicians. In addition, s/he will also contribute in scale-up of learnings for the wider benefit of farmers. This position is based at Cluster Office, Nepalgunj and requires extensive travel to another project location at Nawalpur.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Veterinary Science or animal husbandry plus minimum of two years relevant experience.
  • Previous working experience in research works will be an added advantage.
  • Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Planning (20%)

  • Visit project sites and make present situation analysis
  • Develop action/implementation plan and manual for implementation of project activities in coordination with project team
  • Coordinate for updating access database software into web based platform
  • Develop recording formats
  • Support in procurement of necessary equipment
  • Support cooperatives for selecting appropriate CIGIG facilitators

Lead implementation of project activities (50%)

  • Orient communities on CIGIG concept, roles and responsibilities of cooperatives and participating members (goat farmers)
  • Train farmers on improved goat management with especial focus on genetic improvement concepts
  • Supervise CIGIG facilitators
  • Ensure proper record keeping at household level
  • Ensure proper and timely data entry into software
  • Learn data analysis, interpretation and implementation as planned in the project
  • Coordinate with local government and other stakeholders
  • Help in developing marketing strategies and cooperative business plan 
  • Participate in periodic meeting at communities and at Heifer Office
  • Capacitate communities to handle long term genetic improvement programme independently 

Reporting (20%)

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual report in prescribed format
  • Participate in semiannual meeting at Heifer office and present progress

​Coordination (10%)

  • Coordinate with local government and other stakeholders
  • Coordinate with Heifer staff in the cluster and country office for effective implementation of project activities
  • Other job relevant duties as assigned.
