Job Description

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

The incumbent shall assist in the implementation of the project “Empowering Adolescent Girls and Women: Promoting equitable education, literacy and lifelong learning”, under the overall authority of the Head of the UNESCO Office in Kathmandu and UNESCO Representative to Nepal, and direct supervision of National Programme Officer (Education). In particular,   

  • Assist in carrying out daily tasks, planning, implementation and monitoring of project activities within the Regular and Extra Budgetary Programmes;
  • Make pertinent logistical arrangements for the prompt and effective implementation of the programme activities;
  • Assure that project expenditures are in compliance with approved project budgets and follow up for the timely submission of required project reports by contractors;
  • Assist in preparation and logistical planning of various events - e.g. meetings, workshops, conferences, seminars, etc. including the preparation of minutes;
  • Support in arrangement of missions (ticket booking, security clearance, preparing travel orders/records, administration requests such as advance/settlement and other general payments etc.) including necessary follow up;
  • Travel on field missions whenever possible and required by any project or activity planned under Education Unit’s Regular and Extra-budgetary programmes and as advised by the UNESCO Head of Office;
  • Maintain systematic filing of the projects and related documents (reports, letters, administrative documents, project proposals etc.) on a regular basis;
  • Assist in preparation of necessary project documents;
  • Perform any other duties and undertake any other tasks as requested and assigned by the Head of Office

General Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience Required:

The applicant shall:

  •  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in relevant discipline, preferably in education, human rights, political sciences;
  • Understanding of Nepalese education system;
  • Have 3 to 5 years of experience in the relevant field;
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English and Nepali;
  • Good interpersonal skills, adaptable and desire to learn;
  • Good reporting and documentation skills with computer knowledge including presentation skills in Photoshop and PowerPoint and office software package (Word, Excel & Database);
  • Have knowledge of the UN System and in particular of UNESCO’s work especially in education sector;
  • Ability to work in multicultural team environment and to meet given deadlines;
  •  Flexibility to work in difficult and changing conditions.
