Job Title: Communications Intern at Center for Reproductive Rights, Nepal Office

The Center's game-changing litigation and advocacy work, combined with its unparalleled expertise in constitutional, comparative, and international human rights law, have transformed how reproductive rights are understood by courts, governments, and human rights bodies worldwide. It has played a key role in securing landmark legal victories in the U.S., Latin America, Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe on issues including access to life-saving obstetrics care, contraception, safe abortion services, and comprehensive sexuality information, as well as the prevention of forced sterilization and child marriage. It has brought groundbreaking cases before national courts, U.N. Committees, and regional human rights bodies, led the development of historic, proactive legislation advancing robust protections for reproductive rights, and has built the legal capacity of women's rights advocates in more than 55 countries.

Internship Summary: The Center's Global Legal Program (GLP) Asia team is looking for an enthusiastic, resourceful and highly organized intern with a commitment to promoting and protecting reproductive rights issues by engaging in a variety of communications, advocacy and media engagement projects. Besides working on different research projects, our internship program will provide the successful candidate with experience on: engaging with experts in the field; producing opinion and research articles on the issues of women's reproductive health rights; helping organize and participate in meetings and events; and networking with other likeminded organizations.

The internship will be for a period of 6 months starting in January 2018 with a minimum commitment of at least 20 hours per week. A stipend shall be provided.

Responsibilities:

  • Under the guidance of the Communications Coordinator, Asia, the intern will undertake the following key responsibilities:
  • Documenting and monitoring trends, and media coverage analysis on reproductive health rights the issues in the Asia region on a daily basis;
  • Maintaining and updating press lists;
  • Conducting research as needed;
  • Fact checking as needed for various projects;
  • Supporting the drafting of research and opinion articles on the issues of reproductive health rights;

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in Bachelor's Degree final year with Mass Communications or Media Studies as major, or recent graduate with Mass Communications or Media Studies as major;
  • Skills in Microsoft Office programs, including Excel;
  • Experience with social media;
  • Fluency in Nepali and English language; Knowledge of other languages used in the region will be an advantage;
  • Strong legal research, writing and analytical skills;
  • Demonstrated interest in women's rights, especially reproductive rights will be an asset;
  • Positive attitude, flexibility and willingness to learn;
  • Leadership experience;
  • Exceptional online research skills;
  • Experience in photography, and/or graphic design a plus; and
  • Must be a Nepali citizen enrolled in or graduated from a Nepali University.
