Job Description

Vijaya Development Resource Centre (VDRC- Nepal) is an independent, non-profit and member based organization working in the community development sector for the past 36 years. Being recognized as a promising NGO with multidisciplinary human resources and good infrastructure facilities, VDRC has made significant contributions in bringing positive changes through a people-centered participatory development approach. It has emphatically demonstrated how a holistic community development model can be applied for sustainable livelihoods and thereby transforming peoples' lives in rural areas. It also has been able to mobilize local resources and developthe foundations for a center for social learning.

The organization hereby invites applications from interested and eligible candidates for the full-time post of Executive Director (based in VDRC Centre Office, Gaindakot) for the period of two years tentatively from July 15.

The Executive Director will be the Chief Executive of VDRC and will be responsible of overseeing the overall operational and administrative management of institute which includes day to day office management and administration, financial management, liaison and coordination, policy formulation and compliance and fund-raising. Under the direct supervision of the President or any assigned authority, the Executive Director (ED) will have to perform the responsibilities. Please find the link for detailed TOR.

Key Duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead VDRC as the Chief Executive and be accountable for all aspects of the daily operational and administrative management of the institution's office;
  • Play a key role within the senior management team, demonstrate the ability to influence strategy and lead the decision making process;
  • Take the lead to the development and preparation of project proposal, programs, policies and strategies, ensuring full adherence with VDRC policies and guidelines;
  • Take the lead to raise/generate funds for continuation of organizational activities in key thematic areas through development partnership,
  • Responsible for control and management of VDRC budgets from both internal and external sources;
  • Conduct analysis of political, social and economic trends in order to accurately formulate and evaluate program activities;
  • Be responsible for the definition of project objectives and subsequent preparation of viable project plans in accordance with overall organizational policy, principles and best practices;
  • Act as an advocate and spokesperson of the organization to achieve the vision, mission and strategic goals;
  • Ensure all program activities are performed in strict compliance with donor contractual requirements involving responsibility for the production of comprehensive progress reports and ensure proper monitoring and feedback system;
  • Maintain a comprehensive awareness of the intricacies of the organization's gender and inclusion sensitive policies;
  • Maintain strong communication and harmonious relation with members, donors and other stakeholders, take the lead in preparing/signing required project documents and play a bridging role between Executive Committee and staff members;
  • Maintain strong communication links with government and international agencies, thus ensuring the development of productive strategic partnerships;
  • Take the lead in organizing regular meetings, preparing operations and program plans, progress reports and ensure that senior managers are accomplishing their assigned tasks;
  • Take the lead to execute VDRC strategic plan and make sure that the institution is moving towards the right direction;
  • Support the Executive Committee in formulation of policy and strategy documents;
  • Provide mentoring and technical support to the fellow staffs and interns as part of capacity development and knowledge transfer;
  • Make field visits to the project sites as and when necessary;
  • Review monthly progress and take necessary corrective measures;
  • Prepare promotional materials of organization and ensure its visibility through several measures;
  • Prepare work performance reports of the staff and take corrective action;
  • Compile progress report, develop action plan and submit to the President/Secretary and other stakeholders;

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Preferably advanced Master or relevant degree in social science, management or relevant disciplines
  • At least 10 years of cutting-edge work experience in planning, managing, coordinating and operating development cooperation programme/projects preferably in the integrated community development sector
  • Experience with local resource/social mobilization, social accountability, agriculture and forestry, reconstruction and sustainable livelihood preferred
  • Strong commitment and ability to explore resource generation opportunities (internal and external) by developing good linkage and rapport with government, resource partners and development/donors agencies;
  • Demonstrable skills in providing leadership and mentoring role to serve the organization's strategic goals and objectives
  • Extent of experience with administrative and management issues and team building
  • Sound computer and effective writing, communications skills with professional command in English and Nepali languages.
