Job Description

Who we are:

MarketShare Associates (MSA) is a socially-driven, boutique consulting firm committed to creating, implementing and measuring innovative economic development programming. We are fresh, dynamic thinkers bringing creativity and experience to our engagements with a wide variety of clients, including businesses, development agencies, and donors who seek to catalyze improvements in market systems and empower people to take advantage of economic opportunities across Latin America, Africa and Asia. We take a systems approach to problem understanding – we recognize that inclusive economic development is a complex and dynamic challenge addressed through a multitude of unique social, cultural, political and environmental contexts. We also take an adaptive approach to implementation, developing tailored and contextually rooted services for clients across our three practice areas:

·       Results Measurement, Learning and Evaluation

·       Market Systems Facilitation

·       Economic Empowerment

Our team of experts is deeply passionate about the work we do. We pride ourselves on being a learning organization, challenging each other to push our own boundaries and continuously pushing the frontiers of knowledge development within our field, while being rooted in a strong community of practice, both locally and internationally.

Who we’re looking for:

MSA seeks a driven professional with monitoring and evaluation experience to join the team in the position of M&E Senior Manager in Kathmandu, Nepal.

MSA will be tendering for a UK Department of International Development (DFID) funded women’s economic empowerment project in Nepal, which is anticipated later this year. This exciting project is tasked with developing innovative solutions to the challenges faced by working-age adolescent girls and women in accessing meaningful economic opportunities.

Interventions will tackle both the “supply side”, improving working-age adolescent girls’ and women’s capacity to participate in the economy, and on the “demand side”, working with stakeholders to facilitate women’s entry and progression within various sectors. The project will also conduct research to improve understanding of the social, political and economic factors that exclude women from economic opportunity; and facilitate a multi-pronged campaign to disrupt the social norms that act as barriers to women’s economic empowerment in Nepal.

Job Specification

The M&E Senior Manager will oversee the work of two junior managers to ensure the establishment and management of an effective monitoring system that draws on international best practice in becoming compliant with the DCED Standard for Results Measurement. The M&E Senior Manager has the responsibility for auditing, clarifying, and ensuring that the monitoring and evaluation activities continue to produce relevant and useful information on intervention performance. The MRM system will be required to effectively prove the project’s impact, as well as generating the right information to continually improve the way the project operates and to generate new understanding of what works in women’s economic empowerment.

Minimum Qualifications:

·       Minimum 7 years’ international experience in Monitoring & Evaluation for large-scale development programmes.

·       Experience on market development programmes is desirable.

·       Proven experience in measuring women’s economic empowerment impacts.

·       Familiarity with the use of results chains and the DCED Standard for Results Measurement.

·       Experience preparing for, and passing, a DCED audit is desirable.

·       Understanding of market development principles, particularly the M4P approach is desirable.

·       Proven experience in research and data collection, including survey design and a mix of qualitative and quantitative techniques.

·       Proven ability to work effectively in close-knit teams and to interact effectively with a diverse range of stakeholder groups.

This full-time position will be located in Kathmandu, Nepal. Please send a CV and 1-2 page cover letter to hr@marketshareassociates.com by 15 November 2016.
