Program Director – Nepal

The Director will be responsible for overseeing every aspect of Namlo’s programs in Nepal, including development, relief and reconstruction activities.  Namlo builds sustainable communities in developing countries by making use of a broad range of development initiatives including education, economic development, women’s empowerment, and infrastructure improvement.  The ideal candidate should have a personal philosophy and experience that defines sustainability in practical terms, as well as having an affinity for grass-roots, bottom-up development that place communities in a leadership position.   The candidate will be responsible for the following:

1. Overseeing Namlo's programs in Namlo's communities in Nepal including program design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation;
2. Representing Namlo in local communities, to local government and NGO representatives.
3. Designing programs with local community leaders and building their leadership capacity so they may develop a vision for their community and have the ability to achieve it;
4. Communicating with local in country business and government leaders to develop Namlo as necessary, to develop a realistic and sustainable development plan for each community.
5. Using results-based management approaches that involve building programs on baseline data, with clear indicators and benchmarks in order to determine Namlo’s impact;
6. Providing detailed status report to Namlo International on all in country programs and activities.
7. Visiting each Namlo community on a regular basis and meet with school and community leaders, to gain input into Namlo’s program portfolio
8. Providing support to Project Coordinators for community development.
9. Provide monthly financial reporting including original receipts of all Namlo funds received and disbursed as requested by both Namlo International and the Namlo Nepal board;
10. In coordination with the Namlo Nepal board, assist in securing funding, identifying private/public partnerships and growth opportunities for Namlo in Nepal.
11. Supervise and evaluate all Namlo staff in Nepal.
12. Oversee Namlo's planning process including the creation of Namlo Nepal’s annual plans, financial projections and budgets.

 

Job Specification

Qualification and experience

The candidate must possess a Masters degree in international development, rural sociology, community development, or related field with minimum seven years of job experience in managing development programs.  Must possess superior language abilities (both written and oral) in English, and Nepali with other language skill pertinent to the operational areas of Namlo a major plus.  Technical skills would include computer literacy and MS Office Suite (esp. Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc), Google Plus, SPSS, CRM and other financial and project management software. 

The ideal candidate should have significant leadership experience in a similarly sized ngo, with experience in building management systems, securing resources (including grant-writing & fundraising), conducting baseline surveys, managing staff, and working with a local board.  The Program Director will report directly to the Namlo International Executive Director, and  work with the local Namlo Nepal board to establish local policies and fundraising initiatives.
