Job Description

Read Information and Resource Center (READ Nepal) is a local, non-profit and nongovernmental organization established in 2006. The primary focus of READ Nepal is promoting Community Libraries in rural Nepal for community development. 

READ Nepal is looking for qualified, dynamic and enthusiastic Field Coordinator to implement projects “Reconstruction of Janajagaran Community Library and inclusive community based Disaster Risk Reduction (DDR)” in Kumari VDC, Nuwakot and Disability inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction (DiDRR) in Charikot, Dolakha Districts under the financial assistance by the Arbeiter- Samariter Bund Deutschland (ASB), Germany.

Required no. : 2 (two)
Duty Station : Kathmandu (with frequent site visit to Nuwakot and Dolakha)
Duration : 21 months (Annual Renewal Basis)
Salary and benefits : Gross annual salary and benefit NRs. 400,000.00 - NRs. 450,000.00

General requirement:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science, Development studies or any other relevant field with 1 year of experience in community development, social mobilization, women empowerment, trauma relief counseling (children), project management and basic knowledge on DRR/DiDRR Or
  • Intermediate Degree with three years of experience in related field.

Position Description:
This position will be based in READ Nepal Office; Kathmandu with the main purpose to coordinate the field level activities on implementing Reconstruction of Janajagaran Community Library and inclusive community based Disaster Risk Reduction (DDR) in Kumari VDC, Nuwakot and DiDRR project in Dolakha.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare project activities plan and implementation calendar in consultation and involvement of project staffs and community library management committee and facilitate to implement accordingly.
  • Coordinate on preparing and finalizing accessible library building design.
  • Conduct baseline survey of project coverage area.
  • Ensure the government legal compliance as per the provision of Nepal Government.
  • Ensure the quality of works implemented during the library building construction, set up, and sustaining enterprise set up.
  • Learn about technical aspects of DiDRR and support the libraries in implementing DiDRR activities;
  • Provide administrative and technical support to the LMCs
  • Conduct project inception workshops and meetings with partners at community and district levels.
  • Assess capacity building needs related to project activities for community library management committees and other relevant partners and staffs.
  • Coordinate with Local Government bodies, relevant government line agencies, nongovernmental agencies and CBOs, Disable People’s Organizations, to make project successful and disseminate best practices.
  • Liaison with Partner Organization to implement program through community libraries.
  • Coordinate to implement various trainings, education, interactions programs and events related to project.
  • Coordinate and represent in District Project Advisory Committees meeting and assist to prepare and conduct district level sharing workshop, trainings, events, exposures and awareness campaigns as per the requirement of the project;
  • Establish and maintain good relation with local stakeholders (e.g. DEO authorities, DPOs, line agencies, schools and civil society organizations, other key DRR and disability stakeholders);
  • Make field visits to project sites as per the requirement of the project
  • Ensure the effective use of the fund and maintain the transparency and accountability
  • Assist on preparing progress reports (monthly, quarterly, annual and final) and project evaluation reports as per the donor and READ Nepal requirement.
  • Support and facilitate to organize project orientation, review meetings workshops, exchange visits in relation to project and donor visits.
  • Assist on creating, collecting and compiling project related manuals, case studies, best practices and document properly.
  • Conduct regular supervision and monitoring of ongoing program inputs and support to team in monitoring and evaluation of project activities including financial and program performances to ensure the quality of works.
  • Mobilize and oversee the responsible library staffs for effective implementation of the project
  • Perform other tasks as per the direction made by the line manager and the senior team.

Skills required:

  • Experience in project management with excellent community mobilization skill with DiDRR knowledge
  • Planning, monitoring and reporting skills
  • Understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion issues
  • Good in leadership skill and effective communication skill
  • Ability to work independently and deal with local communities
  • Training facilitation skill
  • Good knowledge of computer with fluency in written and spoken English & Nepali
