Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

Provide input to information campaign

  • Select target audience and relevant group in the project area to be used in the campaign
  • Coordinate the production of communication materials for the project target area and groups; deliver communication materials to the project target area and groups
  • Support the exchange of information between target audience and group
  • Provide input on any other information requests from donor or the other partners of the project
  • Support in preparing brochure and strategy paper based on the GBV elimination strategy of 14th Plan
  • Support enhance capacity of helpline operators in communication area
  • Maintain close contact with partners about the information needs of the campaign
  • Deliver updated information at target area
  • Document project progress through most significant change stories, pictures and videos

Support project communication efforts in Nepal

  • Support to develop & implement communication and outreach tools and strategies
  • Support the preparation of project guidelines, policy messages and other communications materials to be used as part of the project communication out-reach and up-scaling strategy

Deliver effective internal and external communications on behalf of the project

  • Collect, write and disseminate stories on the work, and the impact that is achieved through face book and other communication channel of the project
  • Contribute to develop content for website, face book &other communication channel
  • Prepare press releases, dispatch press approved releases (and provide any follow-up required), organize press conferences as per the requirement of the project
  • Maintain relations with key media persons, maintain a database of press contacts, and receive any media enquiries on the project
  • Provide support to the project team and the partners team to develop and maintain appropriate relationship and coordination with external stakeholders relevant to the project
  • Ensure that the project’s position and recommendations are fully in line with branding and visual identity requirement is complied with
  • Commission and oversee the work of photographers, journalists or film crews, as required, to cover project activities, special events and human interest stories
  • As and when required, accompany visitors, journalists and film crews to project areas, and provide briefings, on-the-spot assistance, and translations
  • Track, compile, share important media coverage of the project & monitor the impact of the media in the project to identify any resulting program-related outcomes.

Job Specification

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in media, mass communications or relevant field
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in relevant field of work, e.g. communication, information management, public relations, media, advocacy
  • Expertise in MS words, MS Power Point, MS Excel, Photoshop
  • Good interpersonal, communication, negotiation, editing, writing and facilitation skills in both Nepali and English.
  • Good skills in conducting out- reach program and policy analysis
  • Interpersonal Sensitivity, influential, customer focused, creative, team player and good planner
  • Embracing and Valuing Diversity – Able to contribute effectively to a culture that positively values the diversity of people, values and ideas within NWC

Organization Summary

National Women Commission (NWC) is the key agency responsible for monitoring GBV, as well as investigating and recommending cases to law enforcement agencies. NWC is currently implementing the project titled Integrated Platform for Gender Based Violence Prevention and Response in Nepal which aims to promote greater awareness and changes in social norms that lead to GBV, improve the quality and reach of support services for GBV survivors, and strengthen the capacity of National Women Commission in addressing GBV. A key feature of this project will be the establishment of a national helpline that will help to improve the delivery of services to survivors of violence.
