Introduction

Individuell Manniskohjalp (IM) Swedish Development Partner (in short it is called IM) is a Swedish International Development NGO working in the field of economic empowerment/inclusion, social empowerment/inclusion and rights to education, and strengthening civil societies in 13 countries worldwide for the promotion and protection of the rights of marginalized women, youth and girls. It has its International headquarters (head office) in Lund, Sweden. IM has been supporting Nepal’s development and humanitarian efforts since 1980 through Nepali partners. Since 2010, it has been working in Nepal as a legal registered INGO having its own country office in Kathmandu. IM’s mission is to fight and expose poverty and exclusions in its working countries (refer website: https://www.imsweden.org/en/ for more information). IM is a growing international development organization in Nepal. It has been expanding its programs and operations from 2015 with funding support from Swedish International Development Agency (Sida) and its own private funding in Nepal with focus towards sustainable development through rights-based development interventions and strengthening civil societies. IM considers gender, environment and climate change and conflict sensitivity as mainstreaming areas in its work at every level. IM works through partnership with local Nepalese NGOs. Our strategic focus in 2019– 2023 in Nepal is to promote economic and social inclusions, quality education for girls, promoting civic space for civil societies work, and strengthening CSOs from grassroots to national level. IM’s current working areas are Dang, Kapilbastu, Nawalparasi, Gorkha and Kathmandu districts. IM is interested to widen the scope of internship program with providing opportunities for learning and developing capacities to young Nepalese female graduates as well as contribute to development with their innovative ideas to contribute to IM’s new strategic plan 2019-23. This helps to diversify our work force in Nepal and motivate young female graduates to contribute the sustainable development in Nepal.

Purpose:

  • The purpose of this internship is to support IM Nepal country team and partners for enhancing the communication, documentation and visibility of IM’s work in economic inclusion (women and youth friendly entrepreneurships, fair trade businesses, access to economic rights); social inclusion ( rights to education for girls and marginalized children, campaign against chill marriages, youth mobilization and meaningful participation of marginalized women and youth in decision making processes, GESI at programs and organizational levels); civic space; strengthening CSOs. Additionally intern will contribute to mainstreaming areas like gender equality/gender mainstreaming, environmental sustainability, conflict sensitivity, and develop learning and capacity building to develop her as a young development professional.

  • Assist IM’s Country Team (Country Director, Program Coordinators) in communication and documentations of best practices of IM country office projects/programs via IM’s annual reports, collecting stories, publications, social media and other means
  • Assist programme team and country director on research, writing and documentation of resource materials, collecting evidences related to human rights, social inclusion, economic empowerment/inclusion, rural development, women's and girls' empowerment for IM’s visibility and strategic advocacy
  • Assist IM’s Country team and its Partner Eco-System (PES) actors on strategic advocacy through communication and documentation work including collecting evidences, designing advocacy message and means of communication for social and economic empowerment and inclusion of marginalized women and youth
  • Assist IM’s Program Coordinators on partner’s review and editing of reports and proposals of partners from impact and societal change perspectives
  • Participate in different capacity building training and workshops organized by IM, partner organization and concerned stakeholders.
  • Visit partners’ office and field to learn their work and support on partners’ communication, documentation and advocacy work wherever needed.
  • Assist IM country team on organization of events particularly partners’ network meetings, coordination with stakeholders, coordination and advocacy events, and other capacity building events.
  • Support Regional Office staffs as per the need in communication and documentation to fulfill the requirements for Head Office-Sweden and ensure technical support from Regional Communication Officer.
  • Support in other works as assigned by Country Director and Country Office staffs

Competencies required:

Communication

  • Fluent both English and Nepali in speaking and good writing skills both in Nepali and English.
  • Knowledge about local language spoken in IM program area and creative writing skills would be added value for this job.

Commitments

We are looking for program intern who can start job from 1 April 2020 and commit for 9 months of service till December 2020 at IM after successful completion of probationary review period of first three months. All employees or trainees, consultant must adhere to IM’s code of ethics, and anticorruption policy, and other organizational policies for organizational safeguarding and standard.

Qualifications required

  • At least bachelor degree in mass journalism and development communication or any relevant subject from a recognized university of Nepal with additional training and diploma in gender, human rights, development studies with at least one (1) year of successful relevant experience
  • Have demonstrated interest, commitment and work to contribute towards human rights, gender equality and social inclusion, and sustainable development of marginalized communities of women, girls and youth, and strengthening their civil societies and networks in Nepal.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
  • Demonstrated IT skills and knowledge, research, documentation, and report writing skills would be added value for this job.
  • High level of proficiency in English and Nepali languages. Knowledge of local dialect of Nepal like Tharu, Magars, and Awadhi will add value to this job.
  • Basic graphic design skills desirable

Stipends and benefits:

  • The successful candidate will receive monthly stipend of NPR 20,000 (twenty thousands) inclusive of tax and all types of benefits as per law.
  • Work lunch at office, travel allowances during field visit, and other logistic support will be as per IM’s human resource policy and rules.
