Job Description

Specific responsibilities:
This will include, but not limited to the following:

  • Empower community members about agroecosystem services, biodiversity, organic food production, and ecological management to foster sustainable agricultural practices.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to community facilitators, the project team, andfarmers on agro ecological management techniques.
  • Set up kitchen garden demonstration farms that showcase evidence-based practices through the cultivation of high-value indigenous crops.
  • Assist farmers in restoring and maintaining traditional integrated farming systems.
  •  Coordinate with local government institutions, agricultural offices, health facilities,and community stakeholders as needed to ensure project success.
  • Provide support to the project team for the planning and implementation of the project activities
  • Take the consent from local organizations, schools, farmers, landowners, and other stakeholders to facilitate project activities.
  • Develop guidelines focused on agroecology, biodiversity, and agro ecological systemsto standardize practices and enhance program effectiveness.
  • Assist in establishing and managing community nurseries to ensure long-term impact and sustainability of agro-ecological practices.
  • Lead Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Farmer Field School sessions ondemonstration farms, showcasing and experimenting with techniques for growingmajor crops, vegetables, and fruits.

Job Specification

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum qualification: Junior Technical Assistant (JTA) in Agriculture with at least 3 years of relevant experience or a Diploma in Agriculture (3 years course) with at least 1 year of experience in relevant field. Preference will be given to the candidates with Bsc in Agriculture will be given preference.
  • Familiarity with local farming systems, climate-resilient agricultural practices, and the local language/culture should be considered an added advantage.
  • Practical experience in kitchen gardens, nursery management, IPM, and integrated farming systems and community seed bank.
  • Prior experience working with smallholder farmers and community-based organizations particularly in remote or hilly areas, is preferred.
  • Ability to work closely with communities, local governments, and diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills with community groups.
  • Experience in documentation, reporting, and field-level data collection.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power point) preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently to remote and rural project sites.
