Job Description

Youth Programme Officer-1(pos)

The main purpose of the post is to help UNFPA CO streamline youth issues as a cross cutting programming strategy to ensure that voices and ideas of young people are addressed in UNFPA’s programme design, planning, monitoring and evaluation across all three programme components through right-based, socially-inclusive and gender-sensitive manner to achieve the related outputs utilizing good practices from and within the national and international youth mobilization policy frameworks.

The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the UNFPA Assistant Representative (Population and Development) and carry out the following duties:

  1. Assist UNFPA Programme Component Managers in examining, developing, implementing, documenting and communicating the goals, priorities and strategies of youth activities across the UNFPA programme components;
  2. Assist AR (P&D) in developing and maintaining productive working relationships with key partners in fields related to youth activities;
  3. Assist AR (P&D) in identifying strategic opportunities for mainstreaming youth in national policy development, peace building process, and youth NGO-led youth mobilization initiatives;
  4. Assist Regional Support Offices and District Officers in the UNFPA-supported districts to promote participation of young people (especially those belonging to vulnerable/marginalized groups) in local level planning and monitoring process;
  5. Facilitate and mainstream youth involvement in UNFPA programme interventions to ensure that the voices and needs of young people from marginalized communities are addressed;
  6. Coordinate the “Learning By Doing” process to mainstream youth as a cross cutting theme across all programme components;
  7. Mainstream youth-related Post ICPD Framework and SDGs components in programme and advocacy activities;
  8. Coordinate youth focused activities during World Population Day, International Youth Day, SWOP Launch, 16 Days Campaign of Activism against Gender Violence and Human Rights Day and other such key advocacy events;
  9. Act as UNFPA’s Youth Focal Point in UNCT-related working groups and provide technical backstopping to the UNYAP initiatives pertaining to the implementation of the UN Youth SWAP;
  10. Promote and coordinate youth engagement in humanitarian relief, reconstruction and recovery phases 4 as per UNFPA’s mandate for humanitarian assistance;
  11. Undertake field visits to advise and monitor youth focused activities;
  12. Perform tasks as directed by the AR (P&D). 

General Requirements:

Qualifications

  1. Advanced Degree in Social Science and/or other related fields;
  2. Three years of progressively relevant experience in the area of reproductive health, population, development and gender equality, etc.
  3. Experience in working with youth networks and programmes affiliated to youth development and mobilization;
  4. Training on knowledge and information management, youth advocacy and social mobilization;
  5. Experience in UN internship, UN Volunteer and UN working system is an asset;
