Job Description

Job Title : Structural/Seismic Engineer (National Position)

Contract Length: One Year Fix Term Contract (Possible extension)

Location : Country Office, Lalitpur

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with our partners to identify and implement appropriate seismic resilient shelter activities
  • Liaise closely with and provide technical support to the Livelihood Programme Advisor and WASH Advisor for infrastructure projects and ensure that partners are provided with adequate technical support
  • Working with the partners, solicit the views of the community and users in the design and construction of shelters, whilst ensuring that all designs are earthquake resistance
  • Support the development of Bills of Quantities, tender documents, etc. as needed
  • Participate in relevant cluster meetings and working groups at national and district level
  • Support partners to disseminate technical information to communities on safe demolition of damaged structures and earthquake resistant building in line with government guidelines
  • Worked closely with partners in building technical capacity on structure design

Qualifications / Experience:

Education, Qualifications & Experience Required:

  • Honors/Masters in Structural engineering
  • Overseas emergency response experience in a humanitarian field
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in seismic strengthening and retrofitting of buildings in a post-earthquake context
  • Previous experience in proposal and reporting writing.
  • Demonstrable experience in supervising, managing/coaching and training others (people management and training of trainers)
  • Previous experience in design, planning and budgeting of seismic engineering projects
  • Demonstrable knowledge of low cost earthquake proof infrastructure designs, demolition and debris management
  • Experience in financial management, budget development and monitoring
  • Proven influencing and negotiating skills with internal and external audiences, experience working in partnership with Governments and national NGOs
  • Fluent oral and written English;
  • Experience in the oversight of infrastructure programmes
  • Experience in main streaming disaster risk reduction (DRR) into programmes
