VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

 

ChildFund in Nepal is an international non-profit development organization, is looking for potential Nepalese candidates for the following position for Nepal Earthquake Emergency Response (ER) Program in Sindhupalchowk and Ramechhap districts. Major remaining activities will be infra structure (school construction/renovation, toilet construction, Drinking water support and house construction support). The interventions will be done through our partner NGOs.

 

1)    Civil Engineer -  (1 person)  Kathmandu based with frequent visit to Sindhupalchowk & Ramechhap district)

Will have overall responsibilities in infra structure support in Sindhupalchowk and Ramechhap district. To assist partner NGOs in implementing infra structure support program fulfilling the requirement of ChildFund, its donors, and the government of Nepal by coordinating with the central and district offices in the set time-frame. To be supervised by ER team leader in Kathmandu.

 

Required qualification:

 

§  Bachelors' degree on Civil Engineering with at least 5 years working experiences in construction field.

§  Have sound knowledge in assessment and designing of community infrastructures like school building, water supply system, houses, toilets etc.

§  Committed to work in earthquake affected areas and live with the local community  if necessary

§  Ability to build capacity of technical staffs of local NGOs and CFJ sub Engineers

§  Good communication skills and strong ability to work independently

§  Having worked at community level will be an assets

§  Knowledge on disaster risk reduction will be an assets

§  Preferable with structural engineering qualification and experience

 

Role and responsibility

 

§  Conduct detailed assessments of totally / partially damaged infrastructures in working areas of ChildFund Japan.

§  Review the technical designs and costing for new infrastructures designs prescribed by Department of Education (DoE) and District Development Committee (DDC) and provide recommendations, revision in designs with regards to the appropriateness in the post-earthquake environment and context of the area.

§  Coordinate with DDC for design of houses for earthquake affected areas and make recommendation for appropriate design for the specific location in consideration to cost effectiveness

§  Ensure planning designing, supervision, quality control and reporting of all the infrastructure supports

§  Prepare the quantity and cost estimate of all those infrastructures to be reconstructed and renovated.

§  Supervision and capacity building of technical staffs (Assistant Sub-Engineer) of local partners in two districts and ChildFund Japan for managing the day to day construction work.

§  Monitor and supervision of construction works at the time of layout designing, foundation set up, DPC level, lintel level and roof level

§  Coordination with district stakeholders and line agencies specially DDC, DoE  for and District Education Office (DEO)

§  Received the necessary documentation required by the Ministry of Education (MoE)for obtain approval to commence construction and renovation of schools.

§  Prepare monthly progress reports and submit to ER - Team leader on  monthly basis 

 

General Requirement for the Position:

 

§  Fluency in Nepali, other local dialect an advantage

§  Good communication skills, verbal and written in English

§  Good interpersonal skills, a team player

§  Have a positive attitude, self-motivated, confident

§  Willingness to commit to ChildFund vision, mission and core values
