Job Description

Summary:  The Chef is located in the SKA Camp in Mogadishu, Somalia and reports to the Head Chef. The Chef is responsible for the preparation of all meals in the SKA DFAC and external catering events in Somalia when required.

Key Responsibilities:  The Chef will be responsible, but not limited to, the following:

  1. Responsible for the preparation of all meals in the SKA camp and external catering events when required.
  2. Supervise the Cooks, Assistant Cooks, Kitchen Helpers and Cleaners.
  3. Assist in the food estimation/consumption with the Head Chef.
  4. Assist in requesting and issuing food supplies for daily operations.
  5. In cooperation with the Head Chef prepare and presentation of food.
  6. Ensuring that all kitchen equipment is operational, maintained, cleaned and any faults are reported to the Head Chef.
  7. Ensuring the quality and standard of the food and services is maintained.
  8. Ensuring adequate health, safety and food hygiene standards are implemented and maintained in the SKA camp catering facilities.
  9. Serves and controls the size of the individual food portions and consumptions properly.
  10. Ensure that the highest standard of dress and appearance is maintained.
  11. Deputise for kitchen staff at SKA projects when required.
  12. Perform any other task as directed by the Head Chef to achieve operationally objectives.

 

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Qualification / Education Level :

  • Degree, qualification or food related certificate is required.
  • HACCP cerified

Special Skills, if any:

  • Good English Language skills are essential.
  • Good oral and written skills are essential.
  • Good organizational skills are essential.
  • Customer relation focused.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multicultural international workforce.
  • Understand different cultures to achieve the end objective.
  • Must be able to work under pressure in a high risk environment.

 

Experience:

  • Over 5 years’ experience in culinary management.

 

Training:

  • Health and Safety at work
  • Basic First Aid Training
  • Food Handling and Hygiene Training.
