About Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project

Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project in Western Nepal Phase II (RWSSP-WN II) is a bilateral development cooperation project funded by the governments of Nepal and Finland. The Phase II started in September 2013 and ends in September 2018.

The overall objective, which RWSSP-WN II supports the Government of Nepal to achieve, is improved health and fulfilment of the equal right to water and sanitation for the inhabitants of the Project area.

The purpose of RWSSP-WN II is the poorest and excluded households’ right to access safe and sustainable domestic water, good health and hygiene ensured through a decentralised governance system with improved effectiveness of rural water supply and sanitation services.

Phase II is the completion phase of RWSSP-WN. Overall, phasing out has to be implemented in a controlled way, increasingly relying on the local capacity to continue the water supply, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) activities without external support.

The Competent Authorities of the Project are the Ministry of Finance (MOF), representing the Government of Nepal, and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MFA), representing the Government of Finland, represented in Nepal by the Embassy of Finland, Kathmandu.

Within the Government of Nepal, RWSSP-WN Phase II is managed in theDepartment of Local Infrastructure Development and Agricultural Roads (DoLIDAR) under the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development (MoFALD).

The Technical Assistance consultant for RWSSP-WN II and RVWRMP II is FCG International (Finnish Consulting Group Ltd.), Finland.
