Team Leader
Nepal - Kathmandu

On April 25, 2015, a 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal, followed by four aftershocks that were greater than magnitude 6.0. To date, there are over 8,790 casualties and 22,300 injuries, and affecting the lives of eight million people, almost one-third of the population of Nepal. Thirty-one of the country’s 75 districts have been affected, out of which 14 were declared ‘crisis-hit’; another 17 neighboring districts are partially affected.

CDM Smith prides itself on developing and retaining high quality staff.  We are planning to support the long-term reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in Nepal and is seeking qualified Team Leader candidates with strong program management, disaster risk reduction and response, construction management services, and relevant engineering skills to work for CDM Smith on a number of pending opportunities to support the reconstruction of Nepal in sectors such as health, education, transportation, public works, and other infrastructure in the earthquake affected districts.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Overall management and direction of the CDM Smith team and sub-consultants
  • Provide technical leadership for project implementation
  • Ensure that each project team is working, exclusively, within contractual boundaries of its respective contract with the donor client, such as World Bank, Asian Development Bank, DFID, USAID, and GIZ – especially budget limitations.
  • Ensure that each team pro-actively manages its overall schedule
  • Abide by CDM Smith’s quality management program (QMP) requirements
  • Conduct regular and accurate (progress and financial) reporting to respective clients, CDM Smith and the local beneficiary agencies as required by
  • Provide effective cooperation, coordination, collaboration and communication with respective clients, funding agency, as well as other local government officials, private entities, non-governmental organizations, other donors, and community-based groups as required by the respective client contracts.
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering  (civil, mechanical, structural, other relevant disciplines)
  • Professional Engineering membership or international equivalent, preferred
  • At least 15 years professional experience, with at least 5 years of Project Management
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience on disaster management projects
  • Experience on both design and construction supervision
  • Experience with FIDIC conditions preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Prior experience in Nepal, or other South Asian countries is an added advantage
