Job Description:

On September 23, 2006, Nepal and the world lost some of its finest conservation leaders in a tragic helicopter accident in Ghunsa, Taplejung in eastern Nepal. They were the leading conservation personalities with decades of experiences, battling conservation challenges in Nepal and outside. These leaders, for the other conservationists of the world, have set an example to follow.

The leaders were returning from a successful conservation act; the handing over of Kanchanjunga Conservation Areas to the local community, when the mishap took place. From then, September 23 is celebrated as the National Conservation Day in Nepal. It will be celebrated each year to honor those conservation heroes and will always be remained in the heart of Nepalese.

To honor those 24 individuals who lost their lives in the tragic helicopter crash and their constant commitment to preserving Nepal’s rich natural heritage, WWF established the Memorial Scholarship Fund that will assist students who wish to pursue careers in conservation. Recognizing the tremendous loss of leadership in conservation, through this fund WWF will help build a new generation of conservation leaders to ensure the future of nature conservation in Nepal.
