Job Description

Position Overview:

 

The Officer, Design and Training is responsible to contribute in design and development of the program including developing training content and manuals. S/he will also be responsible for providing technical assistance, support and supervision on all aspects of the program design, including professional development activities to Room to Read (RtR) field staff, teachers and partner staff on reading and writing instruction, and library management activities. 20 to 30 percent time must be allocated to support the Field Office (FO) technical team to assure the quality of program.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

Management:

  • Sets Professional and business goals and activities for self and direct reports

  • Sets Professional and business goals and activities for self and direct reports

  • Participates and supports during Literacy Program (LP) design and development orientation in Country Office (CO) and Field Offices (FOs)

  • Participates and supports during the orientation of staff professional development activities, teachers’ training packages, monitoring support (tools templates and formats) along with disseminating Research, Monitoring and Evaluation (RM&E) findings to FOs and work on program revision process.

  • Supports Manager, Literacy (LM) to development instructional and library program materials such as Pupil Book, Teachers’ Guide, and other Teaching Learning Materials

  • Review and develops clear understanding of design,  development  and deliverables of instruction and library program activities for implementation and to support LM

  • Conducts 1:1 with direct reports and supervisor on monthly (if not weekly) basis to clarify expectations and set future plans

  • Provides information to LM for monthly, quarterly, annual  reports and also helps to  and update monthly/quarterly budget

  • Review, revise, and develop instructional and library program activities (Implementation Calendar - IC), based on Assessment Criteria (AC)

  • Manages and supports Admin team in instructional material procurement process as per the RtR policy for:

 

- Materials - stationary, people book, TG, TLM, training materials and furniture

- Library material - library materials, furniture, stationary, training manuals/materials, books, posters, etc.

- Library activities materials - stationary, training manual/materials, book leveling registers, sticker etc.

  • Develops tools for Student Tracking Assessment (STA) and shares it with Literacy Director (LD), LM and Research, Monitoring and Evaluation (RM&E) for feedback and incorporates changes as per the feedback and RtR guidelines

  • Interacts and provides technical support to Quality Reading Materials (QRM) and takes active part during IBC (selection, categorization and finalization) based on policies and guidelines

  • Tracks implemented and planned activities based on IC keeping in mind tasks, time, budget, accountability, quality, resource allocation and expected result

  • Prepares training and workshop plan, content and schedules of instructions and library program in consultation with LD, LM and field team, and finalizes it

  • Prepares drafts activities and budget during Annual Planning and Budgeting in collaboration with LP team

  • Keeps track and maintains good filing system of all the design, development, training, monitoring and report related documentations

 

Professional Development:

 

a. Conducts training on:

  • Facilitates while conducting educators’ professional development training (Technical Officers, Literacy Field (LPOTs), LFs etc.)

  • Facilitates instructional training (Training of Trainer (ToT) for LPOTs) for grade I and II

  • Facilitates and supports Library Management training for librarians/teachers

  • Facilitates and supports library reading activities for teachers

  • Facilitates during program meeting, seminars, workshops including RM&E workshop

 

b. Material Development:

  • Develops instructional material (pupil book, teacher guides, decodable text, etc.) and other relevant TLMs as per design for both grades (I and II)

  • Participates during the story writing, decodable text development, illustrators' workshop, layout and designs, and provides technical inputs for the quality material development

 

c. Review, translates and develops manuals, guidelines and formats as per the contextualization global guidelines in coordination with Global Office (GO), Country Office (CO) and Field Office (FO) colleagues

 

d. Participates for self-professional development process (course, training, workshop, seminar, visits, and orientations)

 

Monitoring and Support:

  • Review monitors and support materials development, training package, schedules and timeline for activities completion as per design with quality

  • Travels to the field to observe training, classroom teaching process and meetings in field

  • Supports field technical staff and LFs based on field visit and observations through discussions/interactions, mentoring, coaching and provides need based technical feedback to improve program quality and implementation

  • Updates and supports LM to review Grade 1 and 2 Pupil book design and development as per the contextualization process

  • Updates and supports LM to review Grade 1 and 2 Teacher Guide design and development during the contextualization process

  • Updates and supports LM to review design of monitoring, assessment and reporting tools and formats

 

Other:

  • Participates in any other activities which may be required to be undertaken to fulfill the objectives of the organization.

  • Participates in educational activities which may be organized or conducted by other likeminded organizations or government to fulfill the objectives of Room to Read.

  • Undertakes any other activities as per the direction of the supervisor

 

 

 

Qualifications:

 

Required:

  • Master’s degree in Education with specialization in Nepali or any other relevant subjects

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience (Teacher training/instructional materials design & development, library management and teaching in school)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Nepali and English

  • Experience of facilitating teacher training 

  • Knowledge of basic computer skill to type and edit Nepali and English Languages

 

Preferred:

  • Experience of teaching Nepali in primary grades

  • Work experience in a non-profit organization

  • Experience working with government agencies in the field of Education

  • 2 years of supervisory experience in previous position.
